If the crats make cutting and running their goal for the 2008 election, they will lose. No one will vote for defeat.

"Legislation" is not an end in itself.

Oh, man. I am going to go into political seclusion over the next two years until this non-communicative president is gone, gone, gone. He is an embarrasment to conservatives.

I guess that now he will respond to the democrat demands to send our troops to the Sudan to try to build some kind of "freedom and democracy" for those Sudanese. After all it was such a success in Haiti, Somalia and Iraq.

True, but he didn't believe them. The reality hadn't sunk in, he's surrounded by people who tell him mostly good news, etc.

Not even the Democrats thought they would take the Senate. The House was in play and not in such a big way. Plus, all those Governships and state legislatures.

It's one thing to know it's a possibility, its another thing to actually have it happen.

Just human nature, no need to condemn ...

He reached across the aisle with a Majority Rep Senate and House. Know what that got him? FEW conservatives promises kept to the electorate so that Dems could run as conservatives and win.

You are deluding yourself if you think they stop with Rummy.

The new Tone, bi-partisan appeal needs to be abandoned but apparently he's still clinging to it.

Stop this torture!

Isn't there a law against it?

He's committing political suicide. It began with the stupid wishy washiness over Hezbollah and Hamas that was perceived as rewarding the terrorists with a state and then with the replacment of Porter Goss and has been downhill ever since.

The people wanted their officials to fight for them, instead we saw them turn their backs to avoid conflict and nearly every turn. And he's got the wrong message- he thinks we want our officials to be even more dainty with the Democrats. All we really wanted was leadership and all we got was McCain driving the agenda, over and over.

They turned their backs on all the treason... they let Sandy Berger get off and he'll even get his security clearance back soon.

They didn't prosecute the leakers...

They didn't replace the clingons and they've paid dearly for it.

The congress just kept spending and spending...

Our officials went belly up on campaign finance

They went belly up on tax reform

They didn't make an issue of things like eminent domain- we had to do that ourselves.

They treated the press corp with kid gloves and let them have their way with throwing conservative reporters out. Instead of being testy with the press- which is hated by conservatives everywhere, they quailed and let the press set the agenda, which was frustrating to no end.

And the administration never did stop kissing up to the Hamas front group CAIR, never did distance themselves from it, instead giving them a forum and a say they should never have been granted.

The people were treated to news of terrorists getting piddling littlle sentences and enemies from the battlefield being released to fight again. The perception was it was a catch-and-release war, that even if the Democrats were surrender junkies, the Republicans were "surrender-junky lite."

Down here in FL, the people at the polls were grumbling the most about the the massive insurance bills we'd all just received before the election... and about the higher property assessments which had driven up taxes. And they weere blaming the party in power for it.

Bush sounds human and has cowboy'd up and made the necessary changes. Sounds like Rummy was shown the door and not resigned. He sounds off script and more relaxed. When you plasy tight you make mistakes. The Bi-partisan crap is just that crap. Americans love when people kick someone when they are down, masterful by Bush. That's it MSM gloat, we'll hang one on you in 2008

He was saying that not everything was about Iraq. He was answering a question about quitting Iraq. I think Clinton did run a good race in New York, and Rendell ran a good race in Pennsylvania. He also said Casey ran a "good race", but said it was the turnout machine there that worked.

Stil, any thing he says that points it back to him takes it away from the democrats. And he's not bargaining on anything the democrats want. He is saying he'll listen to ideas, but won't adjust his positions now in the press conference.

Look, we are all upset and nothing Bush says will matter. He is trying to define his agenda, some of which we won't like and now will pass, like immigration, but he is trying to grab the agenda.

Under the circumstances, what does anyone expect the President to do at this moment in time? He is gracious in his loss, trying to be conciliatory and is taking his beating from the (left-wing) press as well as he can. He can't just disappear from facing this on camera. The entire world is watching this. What does anyone expect him to say? He DOES support the troops, etc. etc. He's probably been up all night. Rumsfeld has resigned. It's not a real good day for him. And I hope Mr. Rumsfeld takes a nice long, well-earned vacation with his family. He's 72-years-old. He deserves a break. He's earned it. Let him go in peace.

the rats probably have something on Casey. He was too close to X42. this will be 1975 redux, to usher in the new party in 08 and nicely giftwrap up all the country and worlds problems on Bush ala Nixon, without the Watergate part which is not needed.

It doesn't matter. Bush is a lame duck. The next two years will be filled with primary talk -- on both parties.

The Republican candidates will be able to run against something. It would have been difficult with both houses and the White House. At least we have this. No one from Bush's administration will be running for president. He has become a non-factor, politically. Republicans will not have to reflexively defend him and Iraq will not be an issue.

Iran will have a nuke by then.

Nope. The democrats did not make cutting and running their platform. It was more like Bush is screwing it up. That is an easier thing to pull a lever for than, "Bush is screwing it up, AND we ought to get out of there right now and admit defeat." They did not offer a solution, only criticize what is going now.

Had they articulated their solution (or had the republicans articulated it for them), we would not have lost.
