Several weeks ago, an employee of the VA took home electronic data and his home was burglarized. (wonderful) The data included names, social security #'s and dates of birth (Fantastic!)
Today I got a letter from the VA stating the problem and what they are doing about it. (That's good)
The letter warned us if we notice any "suspicious activity" to notify the Federal Trade Commission (Oh boy!)
Sigh. Only if the employee just followed the "established policies"!
Anyway, here's to my SS#, my full name floating around the country/world for anybody to use as they see fit. Geesh.
Here I am! Come and get me!
Just wondering of all the vets here on FR have got there little special letter from the VA.
Gulf
Same here
Uh..scratch that. LoL
Got mine today, also.
Have you been to the VA to get the home loan letter. This is a reason I could see VA getting your SSN even though you may not have seen them for any medical reason.
The wife and I got our letters this weekend.
Nope...but good thought though. I didn't get the letter and suppose I won't - I'm guessing those affected were "in" after I was "out" of the service.
I have a simple solution to Identity theft
After my divorce, my credit rating is in the sewer (The toilet would be a step up).
Anyone that steals my Identitiy can feel free to declare bankruptcy for me and save me the fees :)
Got mine yesterday
I recieved mine last week. This is the 3rd time my personal info has been 'lost'.. Once by Mariott, then by Fidelity. In both those cases, I was given a free year of identity protection 'service'. This is through two different companies and they are running now. So this means that my info has been 'lost' 3 times in less than a year.. and that's just through 'big' organizations....
I believe that the VA should do more than just send the letter.. Marriott and Fidelity both acted more responsible.
Got mine yesterday too.
USAF!
I got mine the other day. Now I feel secure... (sarc)
Got mine yesterday. Here is a site that may prove useful to all the vets out there.
Ensure you click on the link below to see if your information was stolen. I entered my social and I am not affected.
This AF site tells if your information was on the infamous stolen VA laptop.

This MAY only be for Air Force vets, I'm not sure, but try it anyway. What can it hurt now?

That's a great idea - time to write my Congressman - Thanks...
Thanks for the link, plugged my ssn in and it said I was not affected.

Got mine yesterday.
My wife and I both received ours today.
Got it a week ago.
The Armed Forces needs to dump the SSN as ID.
Give me a serial number!
Hubby got his letter last week. We also got a letter from our insurance agent stating that his office had been broken into and he could not be sure his clients info was not compromised. Amazing!!
