JERUSALEM (AP) -- A barely legible clue -- the name "Simon" carved in Greek letters -- beckoned from high up on the weather-beaten facade of an ancient burial monument.

Their curiosity piqued, two Jerusalem scholars uncovered six previously invisible lines of inscription: a Gospel verse -- Luke 2:25.

This very exciting and facinating news. Strange isn't it, that the more some people try to discredit the Bible, the Holy Word of God, the more archealogy finds are proving it to be true. I say strange, but actually it isn't. It is that God works in strange ways.

"The Bible says James was hurled off the Jewish Temple, bludgeoned to death in the Kidron Valley below and buried nearby."

What is the scripture reference for this one?

Probably (a pure guess) "tradition", which has proven to be surprisingly accurate in a few cases where corroboration could be found (ex. - Peter's crucifixion upside down, burial on the site of the present Vatican - both traditions circumstantially supported by the discovery of Peter's tomb in the last century.)

The Hebrew version of the name Simon is very common... as was the Hebrew version of Jesus.

Not so. Pilate had inscribed on the cross:

INRI

Iesus Nazarenus Rex Iudaeorum

Jesus of Nazareth, King of Judea.

There was no 'J' in Latin, the nearest translation was "I"

Actually, Jesus was the Greek translation of the Aramaic and Hebrew Yeshua... or Joshua, in modern translation. Iesus was the Roman version. Most likely, since Jesus (Yeshua) was known as the son of (bar) Joseph (Yosef), he was probably known as "Yeshua bar Yosef."

Jesus is from Greek Iesu, from Hebrew Yeshua, also translated as Joshua.

It literally means "Semen that saves and restores" from the pagan belief that the rain was the semen of the Sky-G-d, falling onto Mother-Earth, to create life.

So "Jesus Saves" and Restores.

Please note, by "Genuine" he means it was carved in the 4th Century, as a religious tourist trap. It has nothing to do with the death or burial of anyone named Simon.

Christianity was undergoing massive flux by then, having to change from a non-heirarchial religion based on faith to a institutionalized religion with heavy backing from the Roman Empire. One way to take advantage of the funds available from the Roman Imperial Court was to claim that such and such a structure was linked to someone (ANYONE!) mentioned in the bible. The surveyors came out from Constantinopolos with money to develop such sites.

Constantine may have had doubts about One G-d, but he was hard over about One Faith- hoping to use it to secure his One Empire. Not a bad plan, the Roman Empire lasted till 1453~!

No, it was not Yahweh, which is one of the ways of pronouncing the tetragramatron, the Hebrew spelling of the name of God. The four Hebrew letters of God's name were Yod Hey Vav Hey (in English alphabetic transliteration YHWH).

Because the written language of Hebrew is made up only of consonants and no vowels, the pronounciation is actually unknown. It has been sometimes pronounced Jehovah in some churches.

SHALOM!

The NAME of Jesus The Messiah in Hebrew is: YESHUA, not YAHWEH.

YAHWEH / YHWH is the Tetragrammaton...the Unpronounceable NAME of GOD...more appropriately rendered: SOVEREIGN LORD.

"I AM Who I Say I AM" is a much better translation.

From this we are able to understand The NAME: EL SHADDAI the ALL Sufficient - Mighty ONE, The HOLY ONE of Israel.

There is no such Letter: "J" in Hebrew.

There is the letter "Y" as in Yod.

Yeshua - is Hebrew meaning: GOD IS Salvation to us.

And also Yerushalayim...The Holy City of Jerusalem which bears The NAME of The LORD...EL SHADDAI.

Pilate had written on the Criminal Complaint Plaque:

"This is YESHUA KING OF THE Yehudaim!"

This was affixed to the top of the CROSS - The TREE of Shame and Death.

It was Written in: HEBREW, Greek, Latin and Aramaic for ALL the World to SEE.

The six lines in the Simon inscription run vertically. The letters run together, are of different height, a little crooked and relatively shallow.

This tracing shows two Greek inscriptions uncovered on the facade of an ancient funerary monument in Jerusalem's Kidron Valley. The vertical inscription, found recently, refers to Simon the Just, a devout Jew who the Bible says cradled the infant Jesus.

Their curiosity piqued, two Jerusalem scholars uncovered six previously invisible lines of inscription: a Gospel verse — Luke 2:25.

Luke
Chapter 2

25
Now there was a man in Jerusalem whose name was Simeon. This man was righteous and devout, awaiting the consolation of Israel, 10 and the holy Spirit was upon him.

The monument is in the Kidron Valley, to the east of Jerusalem’s walled Old City and west of the Mount of Olives.

Catholic Ping - let me know if you want on/off this list
