The shooting of a 20-year-old Anne Arundel County man, by an FBI agent Friday evening screams for explanation, yet there isn't one given us. How come?
Joseph Charles Schultz of Orchard Beach was shot in the face with a round from an M4 assault rifle after the car in which he was riding, driven by his 16-year-old girlfriend, was pulled over on Fort Smallwood Road near Marley Neck Boulevard by FBI plainclothes agents in unmarked cars. He's in serious condition, wondering why representatives of the federal government so grievously injured him.
We do know the G-Men were looking for a bank robbery suspect. We don't know anything more, though we can assume the stop that resulted in the shooting was a case of mistaken identity. The FBI and local law enforcement officials have simply refused to discuss any of the details.
They wouldn't comment yesterday on how this mistake happened, why Krissy Harkum?s car was targeted, or what bank robbery was involved in the incident. They won't say who the FBI agent was or what his status is after the shooting.
The Baltimore Sun account this morning also reported that neither the FBI nor Anne Arundel County police could say how long the investigation into this incident will take.
Was it an accident? Did the rifle-toting agent who did the shooting have any reason to pull the trigger? Did he (or she) accidentally discharge the weapon? Was the wounding of Mr. Schultz an accident, an unfortunate response to some movement he might have made, or a crime?
Maybe some day we'll have a better idea, maybe not. The FBI says it won't comment as long as the investigation continues. Or, I would maintain, until they can figure out some ?plausible deniability.? Local cops are held to a high standard of accountability for misconduct, while any number of cases in recent years, such as the bloody end to the siege of the Branch Davidians in Waco and the killing of Randy Weaver's wife and son at Ruby Ridge, both by FBI assault teams, have tended to fuel suspicions that federal agents can do to us whatever they damned well please.
Who knows, they might conclude that the wounding of this Eagle Scout was just another case of collateral damage in the war on terrorism. We eagerly await some answers.
Closer than you think. The real money is in 42 USC 1988's reasonable attorney fee, which will probably exceed the judgment.
Especially if the victim becomes the lead plaintiff in a class action injunctive relief petition to make the FBI adopt a big state firearms use policy. Don't get mad, get even.
Operating on the principle that past behavior is the best guide to future behavior...
I would guess they're trying to figure out a way to do just that.
Not quite . . .
Here is what Joseph Schultz used to look like, just in case you're curious . . .
Pray that your own son or daughter never has to go through this. . .
Guys, Besides which, Ron Smith is not a libertarian. He's more conservative than that, and more of an individualist. He bemoans the difference in the ratio of growth between corporate executive salaries, and salaries of the working stiff in the same corporation. The BEST talk radio personality on the air, bar none. But, he kisses nobody's ass, so he'll never be "great" in the sense of Rush Limbaugh. Peace and love, George.

Ah yes the trial lawyer chimes in. Do you plan on becoming FR's resident trial lawyer or does that get in the way of you chasing ambulances?
An 80 plus year old grandmother who was peacefully protesting on the sidewalk was handcuffed to the parking meter for three hours. Tear gas was thrown in the face of little girls (unarmed little girls FYI). A decorated Vietnam vet and daughter of Bay of Pigs vet were walking out of a restaurant, not even aware that there was a demonstration going on. A cop grabbed the woman daughter of Bay of Pigs vet and flung her against the restaurant window, breaking her nose. There's more, but you get the idea. Even policemen were calling the radio stations anonymously complaining about their fellow cops' brutality.
_J, Without a doubt. Peace and love, George.
Well, nothing right happened...poor training in felony stop procedures...poor/lack of training in firearms handling and marksmanship...irresponsibility of the LEO(s) involved and irresponsiblity of the Supervisors that approve this LEO for duty.
If it's a felony stop why approach the felony vehicle ?
There must be a felony stop procedure (?)...driver out, hands up walk backwards...lay down...hands out, palms up...passenger out...
Why approach the vehicle if you fear the occupants are armed and dangerous ?
By approaching the vehicle you give up your cover/concealment which puts you and your partner in danger.
Approaching the vehicle also raises the stress level for everyone involved making it more likely an incident might occur that could escalate...such as this one.
I believe there is no excuse for this shooting...
- hoping that all will be forgotten and swept under the bureaucratic rug?
Could you share with us anything, ANYTHING that they are doing during the three days following this "incident" other than doing their damndest to cover it up?
Why are they refusing to identify the shooter? Why are they refusing to identify the "perp"? Why are they refusing to tell us which bank was supposedly robbed? Why are they refusing to tell us the identifying characteristics of the getaway car - or the perp? Why are they saying absolutely nothing except "We shot the wrong person"?
I'm waiting.
You are wrong. Nobody was killed.
Uh I am not defending anything. I am voicing my criticism of those who will use an unfortunate incident and use hyperbole to make political points. Just like the gun grabbers do and Clinton did.
As a Fed, I can tell you that not all Federal Agents lie.
Gee everybody. I guess we'd better count our blessings and be grateful that not all Federal Agents lie!
You're a really persistent piece of Dreck aren't you?
