Archaeologists in Israel have uncovered an ancient site that may offer fresh insight into the ancient biblical kingdom of David and Solomon.
Researchers from Bar-Ilan University have been excavating the remains of a large house dubbed the Governors Residence that was destroyed by a fire in an 8th century B.C. Assyrian military campaign.
The impressive four-room home, located at Tel Eton in the Judean foothills, had at least two stories and its ground floor extended over 2,420 square feet. Occupying high ground at the top of a mound, the house was carefully built with deep foundations. Large masonry stones were placed in the corners and entrances of the building and high-quality building materials were used, according to experts.
The discovery could shed new light on the joint kingdom ruled by David and his son Solomon, which is described in the Hebrew Bible, but has long divided historians. Also known as the united monarchy, the territory is said to have included the kingdoms of Israel and Judah.
While some experts believe that the kingdom existed in the 10th-century B.C., others have questioned its existence, citing a lack of evidence of royal construction at the center of the region where the kingdom is said to have existed.
However, part of the building at Tel Eton has been dated to a period in history that coincided with the supposed joint kingdom, according to Prof. Avraham Faust and Dr. Yair Sapir. The archaeologists recently published their findings in the journal Radiocarbon.

RE: Bible was reliable enough history for General Allenby to capitalize on.
Interesting, could you point us to a good source for this? Thanks.
Thanks. I’ll take a look :)
I like how the article opens with:
But a shoot shall grow out of the stump of Yishai, A twig shall sprout from his stock. Isaiah 11:1 (The Israel Bible™)
The dispute over the existence of David the son of Jesse is comical, considering that
What is generally (completely?) missing from the commentaries about the root of Jesse (verse 10) is the obvious - that the root of the name Jesse (ישי) is "yesh" (יש), which indicates a defacto state of existence. Yesh is translated as "there is.." or "there are..". Yesh is simply that which is "there", existing. This overlaps with the meaning of the Tetragrammaton - The Existing One, and of Eyheh, "I AM" (or I will be).
In fact, a pun on the name Israel is that Israel "Is real". The name Israel begins with that word yesh, so there you go: yesh is simply what "Is" real, Israel. To tie in the Messianic component in the quote, the rest of the letters [of the name Israel] are resh alef lamed, which is the acronym for the supreme commander of the armed forces, the rank at the very top of the chain of command, the rav aluf:
(רב-אלוף (רא"ל
Rav aluf (initials:Ra'al)
(Chief of General Staff)
(Lieutenant General, equivalent to NATO OF-8)
(Rav aluf means "chief champion" or "chief thousandman")

Just thought I'd add that. "Scholars" have great trouble acknowledging what is real.
"There *is* a Rav Aluf". Folks will just have to deal with it. David son of Jesse, Messiah son of David. It's all in there, even where Jacob received the name.
Genesis 32:30 And Jacob called the name of the place Peniel: for I have seen God face to face, and my life (nefesh) is preserved.
Even in Kabbalah, the nefesh is the soul level corresponding to King David.
Bloodlines:
The word nefesh is often used to mean person or living being. In the Torah, however, animals may also possess this life forcea nefesh behemah. The term nefesh is particularly associated with blood, as in the life [nefesh] of the flesh is in the blood (Leviticus 17:11).
Is Tel ‘Eton where telethons were invented?
Very interesting especially about what the name Jesse means.
