Msgr Pope goes from excellence to excellence. Let’s pass this on to our parishes!

Seems to me they should have a 24 hour drive through confessional kiosk in the parking lot.

It’s possible, but arguably lacks the requisite privacy.

Has anyone heard about a priest who was a begger and Pope John Paul II?

I have never known a Priest who would not take a few minutes to hear a confession if asked.

That is a beautiful story. I think it needs its own thread with the full story posted.

Those words remind me of this scripture, which forms the basis of a commonly used Jewish blessing, May you go from strength to strength!

They go from strength to strength, every one of them in Zion appeareth before God.
Psalms, Catholic chapter eighty four, Protestant verse seven
as authorized, but not authored, by King James

Thanks!

That's so right. "Strength to strength" is actually what I had in mind.

The illustration above is the setting I remember from confession. The contemporary format of sitting on either side of a table out of Starbucks shop with no obscuration keeps me away from the sacrament.

You picked up on the “alter Christus” in the picture, then?

The priest acting in the place of Christ.

I did, the second time I looked at it. Doesn’t mean I’ll accept what seems to me like a heretical change.

In most reconciliation rooms there are two chairs, one openly sitting next to the priest, then one behind a screen. The latter is situated so that you walk in and are not seen by the priest at all. You can come and go incognito if you prefer. Do not let that keep you from the confessional. Check out the room at your church or the church you will go to ahead of time to be confident and assured that you can go anonymously.

The “Open Reconciliation” of Vatican II was another innovation of the devil meant to keep Catholics like me away from the Sacrament of Confession.

“The “Open Reconciliation” of Vatican II was another innovation of the devil meant to keep Catholics like me away from the Sacrament of Confession.”

No. First, there’s no such thing as “’Open Reconciliation’ of Vatican II”. Second, no reconciliation service can keep you away from confession. A friend of mine coming into the Church this Easter (Saturday at the vigil) just went to confession for the first time after a “penance service”. If someone knows what confession is, and he knows he needs it, then the only thing keeping him from it is himself and his own choices.

I refuse to ask a new-age Catholic, post-conciliar priest for the time of day, much less a sacrament. Behind this is extreme skepticism of the validity of any ordination performed subsequently to about 1960 and even more so of any ordination performed by a bishop himself who was ordained as such. In fact, it is quite possible that the world ends just prior to the final living, legitimately-ordained priest passing (since we know the Church persists until the end of earth time).

If someone knows what confession is, and he knows he needs it, then the only thing keeping him from it is himself and his own choices.

I confess all the time. Daily. Until I find a good priest/confessional, you feel that Jesus ignores my own prayers and direct confessions?

That’s your excuse to forgo a sacrament? I refuse to let the devil confuse me like that.
