The South-African cardinal discounted a recent report in Crux that suggested African support for allowing such couples to receive the Eucharist.
ROME A leading African cardinal says the continents bishops want the upcoming Vatican synod to zero in on strengthening the Church with good families before getting sidetracked on other issues, such as the contentious debate over allowing Communion for divorced-and-remarried couples.
Cardinal Wilfrid Napier of Durban was in Rome last week for a meeting of African bishops known as the Symposium of Episcopal Conferences of Africa and Madagascar, or SECAM with Pope Francis.
In a Feb. 13 interview, he told CNA that hed gotten together with a group of cardinals the previous evening to discuss what issues they should bring to the table come October, when the synod on the family meets in Rome.
And the first thing we said was: We have to emphasize that we have good marriages; we have good families. Lets be positive, first and foremost, he said.
Secondly, how can we ensure that the next generation is also going to have good families and good marriages? So the preparation and the accompaniment are two things that we really have concentrated on.
Cardinal Napiers comments emphasizing good families and the preparation of good families in the future were his answer to a question about a fellow African bishops supposed openness to admitting the divorced and remarried to Communion.

To Hell with all those sinners! We need to focus on the good people! </sarc>
Isaiah 42:3 a bruised reed he will not break, and a faintly burning wick he will not quench; he will faithfully bring forth justice.
The Calvinist mantra.
I'm a member of the "elect". You're hellbound.
Re-read the sentence.... "A leading African cardinal says the continents bishops want the upcoming Vatican synod to zero in on strengthening the Church with good families".
I understand this to mean that the bishops want to strengthen the Church by producing good families and not that the Church will focus only on good families and to hell with everyone else.
**The Calvinist mantra.**
Read it again. YOUR bishop is saying that.
**I’m a member of the “elect”. You’re hellbound.**
The only group I hear saying that is ROMAN CATHOLICS about born again Christians. Y’all certainly have no problems with Muzzies. Hope the two of you enjoy eternity together.
Here's what he says...in toto

Seriously, here. Bluster aside. You truly understand this to mean "to hell with all those sinners"? The Cardinal even uses the words preparation and accompaniment. I understand this to mean the strengthening of good families ("accompaniment") and the formation of good families in the future ("preparation").
The only group I hear saying that is ROMAN CATHOLICS about born again Christians
Sure.
Does the Westminster Confession still identify the Pope as the Antichrist?
Depends on the version.
The “in toto” still reads no room for sinners.
He's talking about the upcoming Synod on the Family in October. His point is that the primary focus of the Synod should be strengthening good families and the formation of good families in the future. IOW, this should be the main priority and that makes sense.
The question of Communion for those living in irregular unions is an issue for the Church but it should not be the most important issue of the Synod. IOW, it's of a lower priority.
In any meeting agenda there are issues of high priority and lower priority.
I hope you can see that this is far from saying "to hell with sinners".
The priority should be all sinners. Once again Rome is creating a class of super believers and all others can go sit in the corner and color.
However, when the "sinners" are still living in sin, there's not a great deal the Church can do as far as reception of Holy Communion is concerned. The Church, like Jesus, can not enter when the door is closed. These are difficult situations and the solution may require heroic sanctity but it is known to all parties. Hence for the purposes of the Synod on the Family, no point would be served by attempting to minimize the gravity of these situations in a way which would damage the true concept of marriage which the Synod professes to strengthen. I believe that is the Cardinal's point.
As for "super believers", that's funny coming from a member of "the elect".
I’m not the one excluding others from salvation. All manner of Presbyterians, Methodists, Baptists, non-Denoms will be in Glory.
Y’all are the one who limit entry into Heaven.
Hope you and your Muzzie friends have a great time in eternity together.
It seems to be an excellent example of what you're protesting.
As for the Synod, it cannot send mixed messages. It cannot profess to strengthen the family while appearing to minimize adulterous relationships. The Cardinal's point is simply that.
Yes, that is how I took it as well.
