Never before seen - Francis bows his head and asks Separated Patriarch: "Bless me and the Church of Rome"
Istanbul, November 29, 2014. ... Filled of "gratitude and eagerly waiting", [the Pope] concludes [his address] by wishing Bartholomew and the Church of Constantinople the "fraternal" wishes for the feast of the patron saint to be celebrated tomorrow. In return he asked - unexpectedly - for a favor: "Bless me and the Catholic Church", bowing his head, waiting for the 'brother' to lay hands on him. And Bartholomew, without hesitation, gives him a kiss on the head affectionately. [Italian]
Listening to the original video (also available at KTO), the pope actually said, "...a benedire me e la Chiesa di Roma" ("...to bless me and the Church of Rome.")

fine with me...
The churches split 1054 or so; they will reunite 2054 or so.
The Roman church took almost 500 years to largely settle its dispute with the Lutherans (although it is not yet fully resolved).
yeah that sounds about right.
Me, too.
The Greeks still aren’t over the sack of Constantinople in 1204 by the Fourth Crusade.
The Roman church took almost 500 years to largely settle its dispute with the Lutherans
Which Lutherans... the Evangelical Lutherans who hold to Scriptural truths values or the Progressive Lutherans who have turned away from traditional church teachings?
It is inevitable that all faiths, except God’s people, will unite with Rome.
This is just before the end.
No, I am not defining God’s people of any particular faith. They will come out of all faiths. They won’t be a particular denomination, just people who will stay faithful to God.
Since they have valid Holy Orders and are successors of the Apostles, I don’t have a problem with it either.
my apologies, I had not realized that the Lutherans had suffered such a split.
I was speaking of the Lutheran Church in general, not
specific sub-groups within the Lutheran Church.
given the crusade, and the rampant unholy behavior, can you blame them?
Such things last a long time in the memory of a people.
It will fade, just as all such things do.
Reunification will eventually happen, just a question of when.
I’m still mad that Christendom didn’t unite to prevent the Turks from taking over Anatolia.
I’m still not over the massacre of the Latins in 1182, so....right back at ‘em!

The Christians were too busy fighting with each other to do so.
Ha! You and the Doge of Venice.
agreed!
(although I go further and have no problem with His Holiness sharing prayers or asking for prayers from any legitimate Biblical believers, Holy Orders or Apostoles or not). Not talking about any change in doctrine or anything having to do with “mergers”
just sharing in prayer to the one True Biblical God ...
a good thing, methinks.
prayer is a very good thing,
a very good thing.
then consider me properly educated; the Catholic Church spent centuries talking to representatives claiming to be of the Lutheran faith and announced at least a partial reconciliation between the two.
Who was the Roman Church talking to then?
We have good friends who are Lutherans.
I think their congregation has divided off into subgroups at least 3 times in 15 years.
Conflict over doctrines and pastors.
Unlike Pope Benedict, who said there is only one True Church, Francis apparently thinks there are other “true” churches.
Shame on him.
