Interesting timing on this column. Tomorrow, the new bishop for the RC Diocese of Albany, Edward Scharfenberger, will be ordained by Timothy Cardinal Dolan and installed at the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception, located at 125 Eagle Street. Adjacent to the cathedral, is the New York State Governor's Mansion.
Governor Cuomo walks from the governor's mansion (seen in the background) to the Cathedral of the Immaculate Conception (just visible in the foreground).
No doubt, Andrew Cuomo has been invited to attend. With Bishop Hubbard's retirement, it is now Bishop-elect Scharfenberger who will be overseeing the Albany Diocese. Stay tuned!

If Cuomo can be Catholic, then so can Satan.

One can call himself anything he wants, does not make it so. So, is anyone in the Catholic church denying this? Then, perhaps Cuomo has very good reason to think he can claim this designation.

Satan is Catholic. Insofar as he has perfect angelic knowledge about the Faith. There are no doctrinal disputes between God and Lucifer. Satan knew fully and said no.

Anyone who supports abortion and gay marriage is not a Catholic, no matter what they call themselves. The official church teaching on these subjects is perfectly clear.

"So, you CAN be a Catholic and be as evil as possible, then?" Obviously. Catholics who do damnable things and do not repent, go to hell. On the same terms as anybody else. You could say they're even more damnable, since "Of those to whom much has been given, much will be required." They'll have no excuse.

Satan has never been baptized. Therefore she is not a Catholic.

Free will.
You can be anything you want and choose not to live it.

Well, he's not a good Catholic. But every baptized person is a Catholic in the sacramental sense. Frightening to think how many of the damned in hell may have professed themselves Christians, and yes, Catholics among them.

I must assume that they were puffing their Mary Jane because tobacco is no longer allowed in public places.
