Indoctrinating Religious Warriors (GOP who put faith over science embarrassing Charles)
The New York Times ^ | January 3, 2014 | Charles Blow

In 2009, the gap between the share of Republicans and Democrats who believed in evolution was just 10 percentage points, 54 percent and 64 percent, respectively.

Last year, that gap widened to a whopping 24 points because as the percentage of Democrats who believed in evolution inched up to 67 percent, the percentage of Republicans believing so plummeted to 43 percent. Now, more Republicans believe that “humans and other living things have existed in their present form since the beginning of time” than believe in evolution.

This sad news comes via a survey released this week by the Pew Research Center’s Religion & Public Life Project.

In fact, this isn’t only sad; it’s embarrassing.

I don’t personally have a problem with religious faith, even in the extreme, as long as it doesn’t supersede science and it’s not used to impose outdated mores on others.

But some people see our extreme religiosity itself as a form of dysfunction....

Thanks J2. Dr. Laura a few years back was forced to apologize for labeling homosexuality what it is, a “biological error”.

Frankly, it’s a bigger distraction trying to explain to anyone (democrat or republican) the stupidity of being an atheist........

Leftists also put faith in socialism over science.

When have leftists been pro-science? They deny that a baby in the womb is a human baby, you cannot get more anti-science than that

Not sure how that applies to the subject at hand.

You commented how distracting (and embarrassing) it was to have to explain to liberals that "many conservatives understand" evolution. Might I suggest that was a bit condescending.

My comment to you stands as a common sense response to any conservative:

Frankly, it’s a bigger distraction trying to explain to anyone (democrat or republican) the stupidity of being an atheist......

That you took offense is a bit mystifying.

I wonder what people understand by “believe” in these polls. My belief in God isn’t the same as my belief in any science. I suppose evolution is “true” enough but it wouldn’t surprise me if next week Scientist found a new discovery that turned evolution on its head.
People are used to hearing about something they once thought was true from Doctors and Scientists later turning out to be false…does that mean they “believe” the new information?

Having a 100 percent unwavering belief in any scientific theory probably seems silly to most people seeing all the times some theory has been replaced by a new theory.

It is a fact and a problem. That constant issue undermines the substantial arguments to be made against liberalism and liberals.

>>That you took offense is a bit mystifying.<<

No offense taken. More like pointing out a non sequiter. *shrug*

Really? If so you must either be someone who cares too much about your so called image, or someone who can't actually communicate very well.

And you are CLEARLY somehow offended, which is a bit humorous.

Not really. I am just curious why you are so emphatic, though. But I do also find your sputtering funny.

Nice try in moving the goal posts.

Good job in not confronting your own issues of incompetence.

You'd make a great lib, you obviously can't deal with them (or from the manner of this conversation, anyone) very well.......

Getting another poster to respond to a very stupid post is not hard here, and your initial post was just that......stupid, so I responded in a fairly mild way.

That you can't handle the original very gentle critique I gave you, that you needed to keep escalating, tells us a lot more about you than anything else.

And yes, Happy New Year, just try to keep your posts from edging toward the moronic from now on and you won't get chided as you were.......
