Yes, the betrayal scene was so emotional. I was in high school when this came out and it had a very powerful impact on me and my faith at that time.
Olivia captured the Virgin Mary’s purity and love very convincingly. James Farentino was very powerful as Peter. The whole cast and production was very moving.
Of course he did. I’ve known that ever since reading his words in the King James Bible. Jesus spoke wonderful Elizabethan English.

Mexican maids in La have more in common with their anglo-bosses than English servants did with their masters. All reflecte din the ways they talked. of course. The actor Charles Laughton, whom you may recall, had a kind of middle-class accent that was not much different from the way Americans talked. Look on YouTube, at the clip from “Ruggles of Red Gap,” where in the role of the butler he recites the Gettysburg Address to the wonderment of the rough crowd in the saloon. One of the most wonderful renditions I have ever heard. Lincoln would have thoroughly enjoyed, and smiled that smile that they say transformed the appearance of this very homely man.

Agreed 100%. Not only did Powell do a great job but the entire cast read like a who's who of A-list actors of the time. It's my favorite file depiction of the story of Jesus. (not including "The Passion" which was a story of the Passion rather than of Jesus' life). I've seen it dozens of times but every time it comes on TV, (mostly on Christmas and Easter) I still sit down and watch it.
So true. Jesus of Nazareth came out when I was in high school. My friends and I were very moved by it at a time when we really needed to learn and experience Jesus’ story. This really brought the NT to life for us.

No way, Jose. Every movie I’ve ever seen, the guy with the British accent is the BAD guy. I think it’s a union thing.
