Ummm, ok... do you also pray for the conversion of the Hindus? Buddhists? Muslims?

If not, why not? Seems only fair to want all non-Christians to become believers, not just Jews; maybe I'm missing something. I wonder why only the Jews are mentioned in the prayer.

Understand, I'm not arguing or criticizing, I'm just a bit confused and would appreciate clarification of your comment.

A Jew converting to Christianity would have to agree that his beloved ancestors are in hell but that he or she hopes to do better. Such a person would obviously not be worthy of salvation. Until Christian doctrine on salvation only by faith in Jesus changes, this impediment is insuperable.

I now use an Angelus Missal (SSPX). And it says “For the Conversion of the Jews” as the title for the prayer. Oh, well. It’s copyright is 2004. I don’t think this has the updated prayer. No loss.

Don't all religion believe they area the correct religion? We should all expect other religions to believe they are right and we are wrong. Does the Berakhot that Jewish men traditionally say, thank G-d that they were not born gentiles? And other prayers call for the destruction of heretics and gentiles? It doesn't offend me.

Christians in evangelical denominations commonly pray for evangelism across the entire world. Very few seem to get bent out of shape about that. Is this simply the Catholic counterpart of Jews for Jesus?

After looking at the different versions of the prayer at the wikipedia page, the new versions seems entirely watered down: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Good_Friday_Prayer_for_the_Jews

Allow me as a Jew to get in the middle of this, and ask...1) WHY is this being reported on Easter? 2) Who benefits from this being reported?

Don't fall for the propaganda of the athiestic far Left, who despise both religious Catholics and Jews alike.

Question the questioner.

How frikken QUEER it is for people to be offended merely because someone prays for their conversion.

If you don't believe as the person praying for you believes, so what. In your mind they are praying to some non-existent God for your conversion to some non-existent truth.

So what!!!

You want to get offended (what kind of sissy is "offended" anyway?), get offended when someone threatens to remove your noggin for not converting...that an offense worth taking.

traditionalist Catholic congregations in Italy, plus 16 sections of the Society of Saint Pius. The ultra-conservative society, whose excommunication was lifted by Pope Benedict XVI last year, has yet to be fully reintegrated into the Catholic Church, because of its refusal to accept the reforms of the Second Vatican Council.

Somehow, the title should reflect the article. This title makes it seem as tho all Catholics prayed for the conversion of the Jews. We don't all do that, obviously, the ultra-conservative ones still do. They shouldn't, as the Pope has said to knock it off. All our missals Good Friday services address this point. They are very clear to remind us that Jesus, his family, his apostles, and most of his followers were Jews.

So, being just a regular Catholic, I object to the title, and I wonder why the JPost wants to keep stirring this carp up. (wish I could post my FB "I Support Israel" badge here, I picked the one of the IDF flag!)

The SSPX might want to ask the Ru'ach HaKodesh to illuminate Romans 11 for them.

Somehow the SSPX misses the fact that Yah'shua was, is and will always be a Jew.

He will come to rule an reign over the whole world from Jerusalem on the throne of King David,
during the seventh millennium (the seventh day; YHvH's day of rest)

Romans 11 where Paul discusses who is grafted into whom.

NAsbU Romans 11:17 But if some of the branches were broken off,
and you, being a wild olive, were grafted in among them
and became partaker with them of the rich root of the olive tree,

NAsbU Romans 11:19 You will say then, "Branches were broken off
so that I might be grafted in."

Paul warns against the pride of a Gentile follower of Yah'shua.

NAsbU Romans 11:22 Behold then the kindness and severity of God;
to those who fell, severity, but to you, God's kindness,
if you continue in His kindness; otherwise you also will be cut off.

NAsbU Romans 11:23 And they also, if they do not continue in their unbelief,
will be grafted in, for God is able to graft them in again.

A Jew who comes to know the Jewish Messiah for their salvation
does not become a Christian,
They become a "called out one", a member of the Ekklesia.
They become a Messianic Jew.
The L-rd's name ( SHEM ) is not gee-zeus;
it is Yah'shua ( YHvH is my salvation )

NAsbU Romans 10:13 for "WHOEVER WILL CALL ON THE NAME OF YHvH WILL BE SAVED."

Which is why you must call on His Name for salvation.
See Exod. 15:2; 2 Sam. 23:5; Job 19:25 Ps. 18:2; 19:14; 62:1, 7; 118:14 Isa. 12:2; Isa 49:6; Isa 54:8
shalom b'SHEM Yah'shua HaMashiach
