The official said Rumsfeld called White into his office and demanded his resignation, which White provided.

Rummy is an idiot. The chosen/anointed Army Chief of Staff, GEN Keane said so by turning down the position.

I don't think there is a replacement yet, and I'd like to know who it might be.

He is gone 1 Jun.

Problem is his replacement has decided to retire also.

Methinks Rummy is stirring the pot.

He has seen how the army fought in GW II and likes the mixture.

Thread heads don't, though.

Rummy is an idiot.

He just oversaw one of the most lopsided military victories in the history of the world. I'm sorry if that's not up to your standards, but Secretary Rumsfeld more than meets my expectations for a Secretary of Defense.

I only wish other federal goverment departments were run as well.

Now, if only Rummy would have the same conversation with Powell, and Bush appoints someone prepared to clean house at the State Department. . . ,

This did not happen without the thumbs up from George W. Bush and the replacement will not happen without the thumbs up from George W. Bush. Bush remembers those who go behind his (or his subordinates) back. Thats common knowledge.

They let him serve until the end of the war. He can say that he was Secretary of the Army during the most awesome display of mobile warfare in history. They let him off pretty easy and pretty honorably actually.

Amen.

Anyone who thinks "Rummy is an idiot" after this brilliant campaign, that even the British are saying will be studied for years due to its' excellence, isn't playing with a full deck.

What I hear is that most of the military loves Rummy, because he knows what he's talking about and he shoots straight -- but some of the bureaucrats at the Pentagon aren't happy, because the last administration pretty much left them alone, and Rummy is making them work, and holding them to account.

did you notice something bizarre in this article? it says:

"Despite widespread speculation that White might be fired, Rumsfeld continued to support him in public, saying at a Pentagon briefing May 7, "I certainly have confidence in Secretary White."

May 7, 2002 was almost a year ago. May 7, 2003 has not yet arrived. so how can a statement made a year ago be interpreted as Rummy "continuing to support him in public?"

Isn't that strange?

Like I said, he's an idiot.

Well, I guess that's the beautiful thing about living free in America -- you're entitled to your opinion, and I can have mine.

Personally, I'm impressed by the recent victories, and I give a lot of the credit to Secretary Rumsfeld.

"He just oversaw one of the most lopsided military victories in the history of the world. I'm sorry if that's not up to your standards, but Secretary Rumsfeld more than meets my expectations for a Secretary of Defense."

I approve of him 100% as well.

You cant improve these huge bureaucracies without stepping on toes - why people believe the whiners and not the proof in the victories is beyond me.
