Rummy is an idiot. The chosen/anointed Army Chief of Staff, GEN Keane said so by turning down the position.
I don't think there is a replacement yet, and I'd like to know who it might be.

Now, if only Rummy would have the same conversation with Powell, and Bush appoints someone prepared to clean house at the State Department. . . ,

This did not happen without the thumbs up from George W. Bush and the replacement will not happen without the thumbs up from George W. Bush. Bush remembers those who go behind his (or his subordinates) back. Thats common knowledge.
They let him serve until the end of the war. He can say that he was Secretary of the Army during the most awesome display of mobile warfare in history. They let him off pretty easy and pretty honorably actually.

did you notice something bizarre in this article? it says:
"Despite widespread speculation that White might be fired, Rumsfeld continued to support him in public, saying at a Pentagon briefing May 7, "I certainly have confidence in Secretary White."
May 7, 2002 was almost a year ago. May 7, 2003 has not yet arrived. so how can a statement made a year ago be interpreted as Rummy "continuing to support him in public?"
Isn't that strange?

The Army (at the policy/doctrine level) has certainly lost its way. This resignation should come as a surprise to no one....
The troops (I'm a troop) are second to none. The 'leadership', between White, Shitsacki and a few others have let us all down.
Hope it will change....

Ya see this Colin? This is how it's done. Now go out there and chop off some deserving heads. You whimp!

"Asked whether he would seek White's resignation, Rumsfeld replied, "No, my goodness, no.""
That would make rummy a two-faced jackass. A typical politician who smiles at your face and kicks you in the ass. An untrustworthy jerk.

"He (White) oversees the Army's chief of staff, Gen. Eric Shinseki." Who appointed Shinseki?
