Letters to the Editor: I'm a psychiatrist. Lawyers shouldn't be assessing Biden's cognitive ability
LA Times ^ | February 12, 2024 | Sidney Weissman, M.D., Highland Park, Ill.

Posted on 02/12/2024 1:44:02 PM PST by Carl Vehse

Justice Department special counsel Robert Hur has training in neither psychiatry nor neurology, yet he included an assessment of President Biden's cognitive functioning in his report declining to bring charges for mishandling classified information.

Memory assessment is a complex task and cannot be undertaken over five hours in interviews with attorneys.

No, likely not. But with the resources at his command it is not illogical to think that he did consult with those who DO have the training these authors whines about. This is just more distraction and diversion from the real problem. Complete illegal disregard for protecting classified information and nothing can change that.

The lawyers did not diagnose anyone. They did not use “diagnostic terminology.”

What they said was based on their experience prosecuting cases in court. What they said was that the defense would be able to put Biden on the stand and that, alone, would show the jury that Biden did not appear to have the capacity to create the necessary intent.

So, they used their experience to come to the conclusion that 12 random citizens would come to the conclusion that the psychiatrists cannot seem to come to.

As an aside, my Mom saw a geriatric psychiatrist for four years in order to be prescribed medications for her dementia. And it wasn’t until the very end of those four years did he come up with a diagnosis that matched what everyone who spent more than five minutes with her knew.

Clinically, no we don’t have a psychiatrist’s evaluation to
look to. I’d dare any licensed psychiatrist to view what
we can see of this individual on TV, and tell us he’s fit
to serve as president of a very complex super-power.

If they can and do, I’d yank their license to practice.

Either that or they need a lot more practice before they’d
get it back, if ever.

It’s rationally borderline clinical of them to try and
make the case this guy might be mentally fit.

Who cares what those charlatans think? Psychs are the craziest of all. It’s their drugs that turn mildly disturbed people into mass murderers.

Dr. Weissman says only doctors can assess Biden’s mental state.

Well, okay. However, I must point something out. Dr. Weissman wrote a letter to the editor. But he probably doesn’t have a PhD in English. So what business does he have writing letters without the proper training?

🤔

Thus, using the 25th is impossible unless the entire cabinet is made up of MDs.

Right, and I’m the Pope.

Lawyers shouldn’t be advising our troops on how to fight a war, or how not to offend our enemies.

The quote is hardly ever given in its entirety:

“We have also considered that, at trial, Mr. Biden would likely present himself to a jury, as he did during our interview of him, as a sympathetic, well-meaning, elderly man with a poor memory,”

Hur was not diagnosing him, he was saying how Biden would present himself to a jury. Those are two different things.

This story is intentionally being distorted.

A good professional could possibly determine the reasons for memory problems, but anyone can see that tje problems exist.

“I’m a psychiatrist. Lawyers shouldn’t be assessing Biden’s cognitive ability..”

Yes. You are a psychiatrist. And you clearly don't understand that Hur is not assessing Biden's cognitive ability. He is explaining how a jury would perceive Biden as the basis for not charging him. So stay in your lane, buddy.

"Then lets have the real thing with published diagnosis or shut up..."

This psychiatrist can't tell the difference between an official psychiatric evaluation, and an interviewer documenting incidents of memory failures during investigative interviews.

Funny how the Chinese Yale psychiatrist was featured endlessly on CNN in Trump’s term assessing his mental stability without 5 hours or even 5 minutes spent with him.

Doctors have lower IQ than lawyers.
And much lower IQ than engineers.

"Psychs are the craziest of all. It’s their drugs that turn mildly disturbed people into mass murderers."

Psychiatrists have a high rate of drug and alcohol addiction, along with suicide.

Without the forgetful grandfather defense, Hur might have recommended charging.

He knew Garland would never prosecute him if he recommended it.

The author is unintentionally correct.

The Special Council is charged with assessing the facts in the case, not second guessing a jury or anticipating sentencing.

The facts in the case conclude Biden should have been charged.
