Good. People deserve to be punished

Costilla County is in southern Colorado with a population of ~3500 people. The 2020 election went to democrats by ~63% to ~35% for republicans. I find it hard to believe home prices would double in a few years.

“I wonder what party they voted for?”

Well I didn’t vote commie and they raised my taxes in Boulder county. It’s the coastal parasites that have moved in waving cash around.

The smart criminals go into government. ...Because that’s where the money is.

Once in they need to increases taxes and fees to get at that money.

Class action Lawsuit needed.

Then Prop 13 type of controls.

Assessors are out of control.

With current mortgage rates, nobody is going nibble unless it is a 7 figure house..

For both of you, the major mistake was retiring in Colorado.

This isn't just a Colorado problem. It's happening all over the place.

Go look at the skyrocketing property values with their corresponding property tax increase are happening all across the country. Montana, Idaho, the entire American South, desert property in Arizona, you name it.

Looking at the once quiet towns I wanted to retire in, the housing costs all now look like a hockey stick on a graph. Bill Gates, Blackrock, and the Fed have destroyed the ability to buy a home.

Under Prop 13-—a NEW OWNER knew exactly what his NEW taxes would be.

Under the old system-—Long time home owners -—who DID NOT WISH TO MOVE-—got hammered-—and new owners also were facing a total crap shoot. Under Prop 13——the KNOWNS exceed the UNKNOWNS.

I know a couple who moved completely out of state from their rural property in Calif. Their County Assessor was valuing the entire property as a residence-—when rules said that area used for animals or agriculture were to be assessed at a lower rate. After several run-ins with the local Assessor-—they went to SO MISSOURI-—on a MUCH larger property-—built a handsome home/barn, etc & pay alot less in taxes from their retirement.

Their assessor was totally arrogant about the whole thing.

I am in N Nevada——property taxes here are reasonable-—but I live RURAL. NO street lights-—no curb & gutter (no rain) high desert-—NO FIRE HYDRANTS-—we all have wells...entire school compound is on one piece of property, etc.

MY taxes took a big jump this time, but we FINALLY got a full time manned fire station——One was opening in 2008, but Obama economics killed it. I will gladly pay more for a 24 hour manned fire station. Otherwise, our increases are held to 3% a year.

Correct. It’s an unrealized capital gain...fictional and only on paper. Meanwhile, the homeowners income typically is stable. The consequence is that government seizes an ever increasing percentage of peoples’ livelihoods.

We have a terrible problem with this in Illinois compounded by a highly corrupt appeals system. In scanning tax bill line items, nothing jumps out as outrageous or objectionable EXCEPT schools! Usually 60% of the total! This is one of the major reasons people are leaving this wretched state.

Is there a homestead exemption? The property you personally live in should be taxed at a lesser rate.

I don’t think there is a difference between local and state level politicians. They are the same unfortunately.

I'm dealing with this right now.
County raised Market Value about 30% (taxable = 55% of Market) but actually lowered the rates, and this change resulted in an increase of about 20% (25% if budget increase is approved).
However I had a recent appraisal that showed a value $115k less than the County assessment and based on the new lower rates my taxes would be lower than last year. So I have appealed and this is in process.
We'll see what happens.

The Democrats attack on many fronts to take your money.

Federal taxes…..state taxes…..county taxes…..city taxes.

They want your money.

Slow them down at the federal level and they will raise taxes at the state level.

The Democrat Party Organized Crime Syndicate is very good at stealing.

“Ignorance is no excuse.”

Lol again.

The vast majority of humans are ignorant about almost everything almost all of the time.

Talk to people—about any subject you wish where you have a fair amount of knowledge.

They will blow you away with your ignorance.

Welcome to the human race.

Prop 13 is still needed now.

If you don’t have Prop 13 there would be a lot more renters and fewer owners. The rich will continue to get richer.

If you have people constantly moving, then it would other problems.

because you essentially rent your own property and can be evicted for not paying rent.

It gets even better, and more cruel.

The same government that makes it hard sometimes to evict people from rentals will have its agents show up with guns in a heartbeat to boot you off your paid-for property.

Possibly, the homeowner’s income has decreased due to retirement, with little chance of increase.

This is part of the planned reset, where homeownership will be a thing of the past.

Last week, there was an article in the Daily Mail about a neighborhood in Philadelphia, which is being sold as as a single investment property. It is a very pleasant neighborhood of duplex homes, across the street from a wooded park and creek. One might think that this neighborhood would benefit from gentrification, but it is only a few blocks from where the shootings took place over the 4th of July and the school ratings are 1, as bad as you can get.

The neighborhood is ripe for purchase by a Leftwing consortium, who will move out current renters to remodel the houses and make them available to a more diverse group of renters. Philadelphia is something like 96% Black, so a more diverse population would be an interesting mix. It wouldn’t be White.
