DeSantis lays out timeline for 2024 decision
The Hill ^ | 02/20/23 | BY MAX GREENWOOD

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R) hinted on Monday that he will make a decision on a 2024 presidential run after the state’s legislative session wraps up in May, giving the clearest timeline yet of when he could enter the race.

Asked on “Fox & Friends” when he might decide on a White House bid, DeSantis mapped out the coming months, saying that he would embark on a tour to promote his new book, “The Courage to be Free,” and work through the Florida legislature’s regular session, which begins in early March.

“We’re going to sell some books, we’re going to spread the message of Florida. And then on March 8, I have our Legislative Session that’s kicking off,” DeSantis said.

“You ain’t seen nothing yet,” he added. “This is going to be the most productive Legislative Session we have had across the board and I think people are going to be really excited … So those are what we’re going to be doing over these next few months as we get beyond that, then we can decide from there.”

Republican sources have long predicted that DeSantis would wait until after the state legislative session to announce a presidential bid, saying that it would give him a chance to rack up new policy victories so that he hits the campaign trail with fresh momentum.

After the Trump era, I’d guess there won’t be a damn person left to trust in D.C.

Trusting any of them is a terrible mistake. And probably why you're suffering so much in front of us all after having Trump betray you so often. We just have to try to select and support the best of the choices at the time. And if you can't judge the difference between Biden and DeSantis that does not speak well of your judgement.

You’ll be hard pressed to find a straight answer from him in the last 2 years. That reeks of political puke. You know Trump’s position on every issue, even when you might wish he’d hide it. That alone towers him over everyone in every party. The only way to support someone else would be someone who is also a non politician who can speak and answer clearly who doesn’t fake it and who answers the questions clearly because they are not hiding anything. Even if you could find such an alternative Trump has a record and to me that puts him as the obvious choice. Desanctimonius reminds me very much of Romney. Every decision he makes in Florida should be seen to be a primary campaign position and nothing more because that’s what it obviously is.

Yea but he’s shown himself very disloyal he’s Romneyesque. Not to mention he doesn’t bring anything to a potential ticket. Trump should stay away because a VP DeSantis will be doing nothing to support Trump and only trying to position himself for 2028. I’d rather Nikki Haley (and I don’t want her by any stretch of the imagination)

No, after the Trump era it’s all going back to what we had prior to the Trump era, with corrupt career government lawyers and well connected insiders running *EVERYTHING*.

Not what I want, but you can bet the rent that is exactly what will happen.

Trump is a once in a life time leader and they want him dead and gone. After the Trump era, this country will continue tumbling down range out of control, until it’s completely destroyed.

I wish it weren’t so, but that’s what I see coming.

Trump didn’t endorse stacey.pure fake news. Your boy Kemp is going to be running against your boy DeSantis and if either of them is the nominee I personally won’t care which one of the politicians running for the Presidency gets it. Just more proof of the faux Republic at play.

I do think he is running for vice-president. Trump can only run for one more term, and if DeSantis is VP he will be front-runner for 2028.

Why would Trump make DeSantis his VP? Presidential candidates generally pick VP candidates from a different segment of the party than the one they represent. There's no advantage to be gained in having a MAGA-MAGA ticket; Trump's VP should be someone who appeals to the moderate Republicans. Besides, the VP is a largely ceremonial role and not well suited to a fighter like DeSantis. I expect both men know this.

—> If it’s DeSantis, wouldn’t you vote for DeSantis?

I lean toward voting that way after hearing desantis answer charges against him.

Until then he can deflect by saying he isn’t running.

But when his book/media tour is over - or maybe on those interviews - he will be forced to address them.

It’s great practice if he runs in the general.

But if he refuses to address them, he will not win the primary anyway.

I can't say the same about Trump if DeSantis earns the nomination. I wouldn't be surprised if Trump endorsed the Democrat, as he did for Stacey Abrams in Georgia.

Or ran as a third party candidate, which would split the Republican vote and have much the same effect.

Yea but he’s shown himself very disloyal he’s Romneyesque.

How is DeSantis being disloyal? By not endorsing Trump?

Nearly four months into his campaign, Trump has received a whopping seven formal endorsements from elected Republicans, mostly House members in safe (R) districts.

It seems to me that the vast majority of the party is sitting on the sidelines, waiting for a better alternative.

This is the kind of garbage that leftists do. That picture is from DeSantis inauguration this year. Every living Florida Governor was there (except for Charlie Crist), posting this picture is the equivalent of posting a picture of Trump and AL Sharpton, Hillary Clinton and any number of leftist celebrities and politicians that Trump has appeared with and claiming Trump supports them.

Who’s the better bet, someone who built a world wide business empire, who has experience and skills like Trump, who can’t be bought off, or someone whose only job outside government was a grade school teacher for one year?

??

My concern is his wife. If she gets sicker he will likely not wish to run and I can totally sympathize.

If ya don’t think the Bush crime family favors DeSantis, google what Jed Bush says about him. Then compare what the Bush’s say about Trump.
