On October12,1492, the indigenous peoples did nothing out of the ordinary. On that same day, Christopher Columbus who had risked everything to fund this voyage, went where no one in Christendom had ever gone.Do we celebrate those who dare or those who simply exist?

The hate-America left has eliminated Columbus Day in many areas. Their real target is love of this country. By accusing Columbus of genocide, they attack the very root of this country, the man who discovered the New World.

The Columbus Day observance was started by none other than a vote seeking FDR, the liberals go to icon.

Poor Columbus sailed all that way, just to find the Banks and Post Offices were all closed.

In the context of his day Columbus was a very moral man. Columbus Day and his canonization was an effort to make Italians feel more accepted in American culture. You have to strain HARD to delegitimize this great man.

I’ve never been interested in Columbus Day. He’s got a tenuous connection to the United States at best.
As a general rule I oppose secular holidays for particular people whether it’s Columbus or MLK or Caesar Chavez.
I oppose some other federal holidays as well but that’s for another time

So Columbus might have set in motion some rather nasty things. Well, okay. And what about those indigenous peoples? When they weren’t making war on each other, they were cutting out the hearts of their captives.
I wonder if that will be mentioned on Indigenous Peoples Day.

By definition “indigenous” people never got off their ass and went anywhere, let alone sailed to any new lands.

They could’ve simply added an Indigenous Peoples’ Day in June, to match the Canadian practice (which would’ve been logical from a continental point of view). But no, they had to use this as a club to bludgeon yet another part of Western Civilization.

Everyone is a colonist except those humans from the cradle of civilization wherever that might’ve been. I’m a native as anyone else born in North America.
I reject the group think.

The American Indians have two perfectly good days to call their own.
Aug 20, 1680, when the Pueblo Revolt took place,
and
June 25, 1876, Custer’s Last Stand.
But no-0-o! They have to hijack Columbus day for their own even though they did nothing remarkable on that date!
