German energy prices surged on Monday due to insufficient wind generation.
In April, Germany unveiled the Easter Package, a plan to expand renewable energies through onshore and offshore wind development in line with the European Union’s REPowerEU Action Plan, a plan to make Europe independent from Russian fossil fuels before 2030. The Easter Package target goal is to transition 80 percent of Germany’s electricity to renewables by 2030.
Wind droughts, such as that which plagued Europe in summer and fall of 2021, have been exacerbating the continent’s current energy crisis, already severe because of the disturbance to global energy markets from the Russia-Ukraine conflict.
Both Germany and Great Britain depend significantly on wind to satisfy increasing energy consumption. Europe’s transition to clean sources of energy has resulted in dramatic swings in power supply from intermittent electricity that is periodically unable to fully support electrical grids.

Can’t make this stuff up? heh
Reap what thou hast sown.
Wait until the sun drought hits 🤪
Wind drought?
I thought it was “wind calm”.
Blowhards
By the title I really thought this was the Babylon Bee.
By using the term ‘drought’ they can blame it on climate change.
It doesn’t take a weatherman to say:
“The wind doesn’t always blow and the sun doesn’t always shine”
Thought the Germans were the “master race”
Anybody who’s ever sailed knows that summertime winds are much lighter than winter in the northern hemisphere.
The four angels holding back the four winds of the Earth in the Book of Revelation was supposed to be symbolic, but maybe it has a literal fulfillment as well?
And then they can blame climate change on rich, white, heterosexual, capitalist men.
It's a simple game of liberal connect-the-dots.
Those poor Krauts can’t catch a break.
And this is Europe’s most advanced country?
Food for thought.
I lived in Germany for 4 years. At that time, Hahn AB had the lowest available flight time of any fighter wing in Europe, maybe the US.
Summer lasted about two weeks.
German owned energy companies like JUWI and EoN sure liked the US Wind subsidies that they harvested by building 500’ tall spinning Monuments to Gaia on prime farmland in IN an other states
Windsfields that they immediately sold to other entities
You know what? When it’s hot as Hades during Texas summers, there is no breeze, that’s what makes summer so brutal. We’re hitting our stretch of 100+ days, it’s going to be hot until the end of September.
Baby, the wind must blow.
Doldrums?
That’s the first thing you notice when you go to away from the coast in the south during the summer. No wind. Just water vapor hanging in the air. Blistering hot, even at midnight.
However building windmills makes people feel good about themselves, so the government must spend money.
