Republicans need a leader without Trump’s 2020 obsession
New York Post ^ | June 19, 2022 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 06/19/2022 4:16:18 PM PDT by karpov

It’s understandable that Democrats would want to constantly revisit Jan. 6 — to invoke it, investigate it and sacralize it even.

It’s a mystery, at least from a certain level of abstraction, why Republicans would want to have anything to do with that day or want to fixate on the 2020 election.

The party is on the cusp of a midterm triumph, has enormous openings on the economy and education thanks to Biden administration stumbles and left-wing overreach, is making inroads among Hispanic voters and has a well-stocked political bench that Democrats should envy.

Yet the GOP is stuck litigating the past almost entirely because its putative leader in Mar-a-Lago is incapable of admitting error or defeat and will never stop trying to excuse and explain away his infamous conduct after November 2020.

You can argue that Jan. 6 wasn’t an insurrection; that the composition of the committee is unfair and lacks the adversarial element that has always been presumed to be central to the workings of such bodies; that the revelations or supposed revelations from the committee are being overhyped; and that Trump, whatever his failings, didn’t commit crimes and shouldn’t be charged with one.

In fact, I agree with every one of those propositions. But none of them makes Jan. 6 any better or makes it good.

It’s not quite true, as is often said, that every election is about the future. Republicans waved the bloody shirt of the Civil War for years. Democrats ran against Herbert Hoover for as long as they could. Republicans still talk about Jimmy Carter.

In all these instances, though, a party made a focal point of a low and embarrassing moment for the other side, not its own.

We’ve never seen a more conservative in his every action.

There is nothing conservative about sitting back and watching the federal deficit explode while the economy is good, as it was under Trump.

The new sections of wall wouldn’t even exist without 45 so checkmate on that one buddy.

Incomplete border wall = taxpayer $ spent without obtaining the protection that only a complete border wall can bring. And this is supposed to be something we're celebrating as an accomplishment?

Afghanistan

Under Trump there were only 2,500 Troops in Afghanistan. The country was relatively stable and NOT A DAMN TERROR MECCA as it is now under Banana Republic Biden.

Troops KIA under Trump we're very few, especially the last year and a half. The Taliban did not pull the bull shit they pulled under President Dim.

Trump Tax Cuts for the Working Class

https://news.yahoo.com/irs-data-prove-trump-tax-130007569.html

A careful analysis of the IRS tax data, one that includes the effects of tax credits and other reforms to the tax code, shows that filers with an adjusted gross income (AGI) of $15,000 to $50,000 enjoyed an average tax cut of 16 percent to 26 percent in 2018, the first year Republicans’ Tax Cuts and Jobs Act went into effect and the most recent year for which data is available.

Filers who earned $50,000 to $100,000 received a tax break of about 15 percent to 17 percent, and those earning $100,000 to $500,000 in adjusted gross income saw their personal income taxes cut by around 11 percent to 13 percent.”

This is from ANTI-Trump Yahoo, consider yourself informed.

Locking up Hillary, well thanks to California we have Pelosi ruling the country. Thank you Californium for the most destructive Speaker in this country. Shame on you California! Shame!

Shame on the Democrats for two impeachments and lying about Russia, Russia, Russia.

Balancing the Budget: I don't remember Trump promising that he would balance the budget. I do remember Trump promising he would take on China. He damn well did.

I am aware that the Rats did everything in their power to obstruct Trump's wall. I am also aware that we held the House and Senate from 2016 to 2018, during which time the Rats lacked the seats to stop Trump's wall. That tells me that either Trump couldn't even unite his own party or that the wall wasn't a top priority for him.

This is how much wall Trump did manage to build and what Biden did first day in office.

According to the link you provided me Trump allocated $15 billion to build 458 miles of wall, mostly in places where barriers already existed. The length of the US border is 1,954 miles. I'll let you do the math.
Length of US Mexican border

Under Trump there were only 2,500 Troops in Afghanistan.

That's 2,500 more than he promised there would be. Had he honored his promise to get us out of Afghanistan entirely, it would not have been left to the idiot Biden and would have been done with fewer American lives lost.

Locking up Hillary, well thanks to California we have Pelosi ruling the country. Thank you Californium for the most destructive Speaker in this country. Shame on you California! Shame!

I'm not sure what your point here is. Neither I nor JimRob nor any other Californian Freeper voted for Pelosi.

The having the Turtle Run Senate on your side does not mean much. You forgot all the lawsuits against the building of the wall.

Number of Troops

The 2,500 investment with no casualties was a good investment.

Trump followed the military brass’ advice at minimum Troop cost and Afghanistan was stable.

Biden did not follow the military brass’ advice. Enjoy your “No Troops in Afghanistan”. Biden kept the promise. You should be happy.

Posting the same links again doesn’t change the fact that Trump only built 458 miles of border wall out of a 1,954 mile border. If he spent $15 billion building those 458 miles that’s $32,751,091.70/mile. I thought Trump was supposed to be good at negotiating the price down. Or perhaps he is and just didn’t care about the future generations of Americans saddled with a $1 trillion plus deficit.

Every politician in existence has faced resistance. I’m just suspicious of those who spend more time on Twitter whining about what victims they are than actually doing good for their countries.

Read the links. There were numerous lawsuits preventing the building of the wall.

You and dummycrats have a lot in common.
