Republicans need a leader without Trump’s 2020 obsession
New York Post ^ | June 19, 2022 | Rich Lowry

Posted on 06/19/2022 4:16:18 PM PDT by karpov

It’s understandable that Democrats would want to constantly revisit Jan. 6 — to invoke it, investigate it and sacralize it even.

It’s a mystery, at least from a certain level of abstraction, why Republicans would want to have anything to do with that day or want to fixate on the 2020 election.

The party is on the cusp of a midterm triumph, has enormous openings on the economy and education thanks to Biden administration stumbles and left-wing overreach, is making inroads among Hispanic voters and has a well-stocked political bench that Democrats should envy.

Yet the GOP is stuck litigating the past almost entirely because its putative leader in Mar-a-Lago is incapable of admitting error or defeat and will never stop trying to excuse and explain away his infamous conduct after November 2020.

You can argue that Jan. 6 wasn’t an insurrection; that the composition of the committee is unfair and lacks the adversarial element that has always been presumed to be central to the workings of such bodies; that the revelations or supposed revelations from the committee are being overhyped; and that Trump, whatever his failings, didn’t commit crimes and shouldn’t be charged with one.

In fact, I agree with every one of those propositions. But none of them makes Jan. 6 any better or makes it good.

It’s not quite true, as is often said, that every election is about the future. Republicans waved the bloody shirt of the Civil War for years. Democrats ran against Herbert Hoover for as long as they could. Republicans still talk about Jimmy Carter.

In all these instances, though, a party made a focal point of a low and embarrassing moment for the other side, not its own.

I do think, however, that the Dems are hoping to hell that DeSantis isn’t on the ticket.
No one outside of FR cares about J6 and fewer even know who DeSantis is.

Nothing happened as a result of J6. Life went on as normal...NO ONE CARES.

Everyone knows who and what DJ Trump is.

From the article: No other prospective 2024 candidate would have to excuse Jan. 6 and parrot the most outlandish claims about the 2020 election, not Ron DeSantis, not Mike Pence, not Tom Cotton, not Nikki Haley.

But another "prospective 2024 candidate" would have to show me they could fight like Trump. And those mentioned above, or others, have yet to show me they can take the fight to the Rats with the relish and effectiveness of Trump. And until someone does, I'm not interested in anyone but Trump.

Failure to recognize the problem (stolen election) precludes any chance of fairness in future elections.

That is not necessarily true, is it? One can insist on all manner of voting security and draft new laws for the same without referring back to 2020, can't one?

What I like about 45 is that he doesn’t lay down like all the rest.

Well, he was certainly lying down on the job when it came time to build the border wall, balance the budget, cut taxes for the working class, lock up Hillary Clinton, or pull us out of Afghanistan. IOW on almost all the things he promised to do in 2016, though I do give him credit for appointing 3 pro-life Supreme Court justices.

We don't need another octogenarian spending money his generation will never have to pay back. Time to pass the baton to DeSantis or Rand Paul or some younger conservative who has a proven record of actually governing, not just tweeting about how hard he has it.

It is NOT Trump’s obsession. It’s mine and millions of others like me. Democrats, Deep-state, and complicit RINOs STOLE that election. I won’t rest until that crime is vindicated by his election - again.

Any ‘Republican’ politician that doesn’t support him or wants to divert away from him and his followers’ goals does not get my vote, period.

What the country needs is a strong leader with a proven track record.

Completely agree, which is why I'll be voting for DeSantis or Paul in the primary. Trump didn't get us out of Afghanistan, didn't lock up Hillary Clinton, didn't build his border wall, didn't reduce the deficit or cut taxes for working people. His track record is far from proven.

It's about principles Rich. Maybe someone could explain them to you.

The RATS have no reason left to not cheat. They can openly cheat and dare you to mention it. They will get away with it because there is no entity in place that they do not run to stop the fraud and election theft.

We can no longer protest because they will manufacture some false flag to attribute to us and throw innocent people in the gulag.

So what are we to do? We have run out of options.

The constitution gives nearly total control of elections to the states, so wouldn’t it make sense for Trump and his allies to be working at the state level?

IIRC: Working with states to clean up their voter rolls so that what happened in 2020 was at least mitigated was supposed to Pence's job as chief of a committee. The states wouldn't work with him for the reason you give: it's the job of the states to do that and they didn't want share the work nor disclose how bad things might be. After about six months, Pence gave up on trying and the rest is infamy.

No one outside of FR cares about J6 and fewer even know who DeSantis is.

DeSantis has made the national news multiple times due to his firm opposition to CRT and groomers in our classrooms. I'm pretty sure everyone knows who is by now.

The 2020 keeps coming up because the MSM blocked any investigation. It’s kinda like Epstein. We all know he had a list of all the elites who savored his children. Until all of them are up against the wall, your pleas to “just get along” -—— well, go to ‘Ell.

This is the result of calling all of your opponents racists and deplorables. Go to ‘Ell.

>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>>.
Nonsense. Neither DeSantis nor Paul have any track record at all in terms of a MAGA agenda. And neither one has any background when it comes to the nation’s most important business — which is business. When one is looking to support an America-First leader the easiest way to identify him is to look at the candidate the Left most despises and fears. And it ain’t either one of your heroes! That said, I’m a great supporter of both of those guys, just not for job of POTUS in 2024.

There was certainly fraud in this last election. I’m not sure if it was enough for Trump to lose, but there was fraud.

Ask yourself how many individuals attended President Trump's rallies versus the number of minions that attended Biden's rallies.

Ask yourself how many Republican ballots were never processed?

Ask yourself how many Democrat staff in nursing homes submitted fraudulent ballots in the name of their patients?

Ask yourself why did the Democrat leaders in battleground states suspended the legislated checks for voter integrity to allow clearly fraudulent ballots to be counted.

Ask yourself why in three metro Atlanta counties, Cobb, DeKalb and Fulton, 87 outside unattended ballot drop boxes were available 24/7 beginning Saturday, September 19, 2020 and running through Election Day.   For comparison, 60% of absentee ballots were delivered in those three counties’ drop boxes during the 2020 election.

There in no telling how many ballots were routed to a supervisor station ostensibly for ballot curing but actually for the sole purpose of changing a Republican vote to a Democrat vote.

Constant dwelling is not going to change where he’s at right now — but it might change where he’s going if he doesn’t move on and work to win the next round.

Constant dwelling is the only sane action until Democrats from the top down are behind bars.

Right here in Cobb County, Georgia the industrial sized shredder trucks were parked at the Jim R. Miller Park & Event Center where votes were counted to shred the ballot mailing envelops with verification signatures that by law were supposed to be archived.

So you say.

But don't bank on it. No one is paying attention outside of Florida and FR.

BTW, An honest question. How frequent has DeSantis been on Fox News, Hannity, Levine, Watters, MSNBC, CNN Etc. NBC, CBS, ABC? I really don't know.

I'm going to go out on a limb and say Lindsey Graham has been on more often than Desantis.

Maybe Lindsey Graham should run.

Ridiculous. We’ve never seen a more conservative in his every action. If he laid down then I’d hate to see what you think of every other politician.

The new sections of wall wouldn’t even exist without 45 so checkmate on that one buddy.
