The Oscars reportedly saw a ratings boost after suffering record low viewership last year, with Will Smith slapping Chris Rock during the awards show dominating headlines the day after the ceremony.
The 94th annual Academy Awards on ABC drew 13.73 million viewers on Sunday, according to fast national Nielsen ratings cited by The Hollywood Reporter on Monday.

Will Smith found out his acting of Muhammad Ali didn’t really mean that he was Muhammad Ali.
Slapped the skinny dude and it didn’t even phase him.
Fake. Watch Chris Rock basically stand still and lean forward waiting for the “surprise slap.” Plus, Smith immediately starts smiling as he walks away. A very strange reaction from someone who felt so affronted he walked on stage and hit the emcee. Totally fake.

They allowed a violent attendee to remain in his seat...there could have been all kinds of ramifications from that.
I can see why the producers didnt have a clue what to do..they didnt know if the guy was about to win an award or what
I have no doubt there are plenty of hacked off people on the inside of this...especially with the calls from many members of the Academy to revoke the Oscar.
Will Smith might have decided to cause some kind of stir and was just waiting for the right moment..but no way the big producers were in on this.

The last time I saw the Oscars, the host was wearing white tie and tails.
Now the women who don't want to be metoo objectified show their breasts and nipples and one young kid was wearing beach wear. It was classier when they wore velvet sweat suits.
I thought it might be bogus, but Will Smith is cursing at him, so I think it was real, not staged at all.
I see no redeeming value from the event, much less any of Hollywood any more.
I used to watch them regularly back in the 1960s, and even up through the 1970s (well, when I was “back in the World”). I saw maybe a total of four between about 1980 and mid-1990s. The last one I saw had Billy Crystal as the host. Helen Hunt won best actress. So, 1997?
