“Start watching your Dad’s credit report for new credit cards, loans, mortgage on the house, everything.”

You can also put a lock on his credit, via the credit agencies. For credit cards, you could have them send you an email when some threshold is charged, say $200, but you may also want to cancel existing ones and have them re-issued. Probably stuff you can do with bank accounts too, but I’m not as familiar.

Zealots are destroying America in the guise of promoting renewale energy

There can be no co existence

“You folks are missing something(again). Solar is sexy-get it? It’s clean like showering before sex. Suburban housewives. Don’t point out mathematical facts to them-they buy into global warming.”

Reminds me of “Renewable Day” or some crap like that when I went to look at the solar/wind installations that were open to the public. My interest was figuring out what they generated and how much they cost, so I was estimating active areas, looking at and photographing nameplates and figuring out how their 2-axis tracking worked.

Others there were just blown away with the thought that they could have ‘free’ electricity from those big black things. That was all they were capable of comprehending.

The Left has plenty of people like me (and probably you) who can do the math. The fact that they go along with the misconceptions and outright lies should be enough to jail these people.

The old folks are not the problem. As I’ve said it’s the suburban housewife.

Think fossil fuels. Then sex. Too much of both? You get global warming and pregnant. Solar makes them feel clean and free. It’s like sex without consequences.
Tell me I’m wrong and I’ll tell you these women vote.

Wouldn’t these women prefer a man who installs panels for the ‘common good’ over one who works in a coal mine?

Yep, he was scammed out of $300K a few years ago through a gold scam originating in Accra, it was unbelievable what he fell for and he use to be a cop!! Of all people to fall for scams, but something happened to his brain where he lost all ability to be objective, suspicious and he refuses to see a neurologist.

Something tells me there outta be a law saying all contracts over $50 signed by people of a certain age need to be approved by concerned citizens. Especially if they live alone.

If he has credit cards, you probably want to consider placing any or all of them on fraud alert. This can be done very simply by calling any one of Experian, TRW, or the other credit reporting agency whose Name Escapes me at the moment. If he has given his social security number, that is a huge step toward enabling fraud.

"I can tell you residential solar power with a battery does exactly what I want it to do."

Me too. I'm in Alabama (snow cover isn't an issue for me either). My 10 kW solar panels with 30 kWh of batteries provides a hair over 50% of my electricity in my all-electric two-story house. It'll pay for itself in 9-10 years, assuming electric rates rise only 3%.

I just checked his credit report and nobody made any inquiries about his credit yesterday so right there is proof the guy was lying, no record of anyone making any soft or hard inquiries. I’m going to get him to freeze his credit so we have to call up companies like Equifax, Transunion. If they do take out a loan on his credit, he will be informed of it right?

Thanks, that is a good idea. We live in New York but I don’t know what the laws are here.

” YOU CANNOT get enough panels on an RV and enough batteries IN an RV to reliably supply 100% on your energy needs. Which means you still need a generator to top off the batteries when you hit a stretch of “poor solar” days/locations.”

Very true. Another consideration is that not every campground, particularly campgrounds without hookups (where you need solar), has a great view of the sky. As we say in the solar business “One tree can ruin your whole day”.

And if you want air conditioning with solar on a camper, forget it. The best you’ll do is a being able to run it for an hour or so (off batteries), to cool the rig down before coming back to it.

Every roof is NOT a good solar roof due to shade, orientation, architectural features, slope and similar.

Some folks have a bill under $130/mo., and since there IS a fixed base cost for a slew of electrical work and controllers/combiners (not to mention the battery(s)) solar would be a POOR investment. Our home bill averaged about $270/mo. Now we AVERAGE (annually) about $35 for consumed grid electricity. The system costs us $202/mo. SO there’s immediate savings for us on an ANNUAL basis. As the cost of utility energy increase over the years, 75% of our usage will NOT increase in cost.

Lastly, since we live in ‘the sticks’ and have fact-based concerns about the durability of the US grid, we were ready to absorb a net cost in order to be able to have electricity when the grid is down. Read “The Power and the Light” by Peter Vincent Pry or follow Jonathan Hollerman for more information.

Having solar power on your roof means that during the high-sun months and day-parts you can use electricity with abandon because there’s so little an incremental cost to doing so. The “sell power back to the utility” farce is that our EMC will buy power at 2.8 cents, but sells it at 12 cents per kilowatt hour. This means that on days of excess power production from solar, any extraordinary electrical usage only ‘costs’ you an opportunity cost of 2.8 cents per kilowatt. So yeah, on a hot sunny August day, we can crank the AC down to 65, run the hot tub, use both ovens etc etc ... and still have a $25 electric usage bill for the month. Winter time? um, no ... Too many cloudy days, fewer hours of sun, lower sun elevation all add up to much lower power production. WE KNEW THAT GOING IN. On annual average, we WILL save net dollars every year from day zero, AND have the assurance of power when the grid is down.

Now back to the ‘every roof’ thought. Tesla has it right in concept - the solar roof as opposed to solar panels. These ‘solar shingles’ go on INSTEAD of a traditional asphalt, metal or tile roof. Right now, they are PRICEY and a toy for the well-heeled. But in the future, yeah - put them on every south-facing roof that makes sense AT BUILD TIME. We have LG panels and they work great, guaranteed to produce for 25 years. WE. Are. Happy. ... and realistic from day zero.

When a homeowner puts solar on their home THEY realize the benefits. When a utility builds solar, the utility realizes the benefits.

Happy New Year. Gotta run.

“But at only 30% of rated capacity at best.”

The numbers they’re giving here do factor in nighttime, so your starting point is 50%. Then, of course, outside of deserts, there will be clouds. And what they found at one large installation in California that it’s best to not be under a path that airplanes use, as contrails further degrade power production. Damn things are very sensitive.

You mention Warren Buffet. He made a famous summary statement about wind farms some time ago. That other than harvesting government subsidies, there is no economic reason to invest in wind. And he hasn’t iirc.

I’ve often wondered if we did take it to the extreme and put solar panels over every inch of land what the end-effect would be. All those panels essentially robbing the solar heat and converting it at some reduced efficiency to electrical power. Would it reduce the heat load on the planet? Could a long term effect be cooling of the overall temperature?

I’ve also wondered about the same thing but with wind turbines. Millions of 100 ft blades sapping all the ground level wind energy. How would this affect overall global air movement? Would it change the jet streams? Create/reduce possibility for tornados?

Ha! Maybe if I were younger and wanted to burn some cash I’d get the government to fund some long term studies.... :0)

34 375W panels and 10kWh battery for us. ;-)

We MIGHT add more battery capacity *IF* the price ever comes down.

We still have two generators available. REM: we live in the sticks of N GA.
