"Sears was founded in Chicago in the 1890s."

They had a good run.

When they went bankrupt in Canada, I bought a Timex watch for 30% off.

Last interaction with Sears was being told that it was my $ liability that their two separate maintenance guys couldn’t find a floor-destroying leak in their house-brand dishwasher.

Sears Roebuck had a good run. I know people who said their Craftsman tools were the best quality. Ditto the Kenmore appliances.

Does anyone else sell Craftsman tools anywhere else? Or Kenmore home appliances such as washing machines?

They sure did. Sears Roebuck was the Amazon of its day.

They shouldn’t have closed all of the Kresge’s stores. Those five and dimes made a comeback with Dollar General and Family Dollar.

I remember when the Sears Catalog...all 400 pages of it...was eagerly anticipated in every middle class household in the country.IMO “Sears” means Middle America...the American Dream.

“They had a good run.”

Yeah, until the management decided that new internet thing was just stupid.

So is Sears closing all their stores? What about JC Penny?

In the early 80’s Walmart was rapidly expanding into numerous states. In a TV news report about the expansion, the reporter asked the then-president of Sears what he thought of Walmart’s rapid expansion. He replied, “Who do they think they are? Sears?”

At that time, Sears had a store in nearly every mall in North America.

We have several excellent large appliances from Sears.

I so looked forward to the Sears Wish List catalog, as a child.

Companies like Sears and Kodak blew it.

In their earlier days, Sears had THE preeminent mail order business. You could order just about ANYTHING through their catalog, and have it shipped to your house. If they had just had SOMEBODY with vision, they could have dominated the web niche that Amazon currently does.

Maybe they shouldn’t have spent so much money building that giant tower?

They had a good run but it seems like they’ve been going broke for 35 years. Glad Sears is finally at peace.

They had a good run.

If one company would/should have understood the change to mail order ala Amazon, one would think Sears would. It should have been in their DNA.

However, they got locked themselves into 99 year leases every where and that partially was their downfall.

Good childhood memories of me and my little brother sitting on the floor and devouring the Sears Christmas catalogue to decide what toys we wanted to ask for Christmas.

I’ve got a couple of broken Craftsman tools. I better hustle my butt over to Chicago to cash in on the lifetime warranty before it’s too late.
