Judge says 2020 census must continue for another month

A federal judge has stopped the 2020 census from finishing at the end of September and ordered the once-a-decade head count of every U.S. resident to continue for another month through the end of October, saying a shortened schedule likely would produce inaccurate results.

U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh in California made her ruling late Thursday, two days after hearing arguments from attorneys for the Census Bureau, and attorneys for civil rights groups and local governments that had sued the Census Bureau in an effort to halt the 2020 census from stopping at the end of the month. Attorneys for the civil rights groups and local governments said the shortened schedule would undercount residents in minority and hard-to-count communities.

I worked as a census enumerator for five weeks this year from August through mid-September but just resigned due to damage to my 22 year old pickup (from the stop and go nature of the job) and from utter exhaustion from stupidly trying to work two jobs at age 71.

Secondarily it became frustrating for me to have to climb six flights of stairs to reach one apartment unit only to have the respondent slam the door in my face. Apartment complexes in Florida mostly do NOT have elevators. It’s a young population in this county. And to have to wear the mask in 90 degree heat and humidity even though the county ordinance here only specifies masks for indoor public spaces not outdoor. I never went into an enclosed space to interview a respondent.

Then I believe as many as 85 percent of my contacts were non-English speaking foreign nationals. We were given tons of language sheets which had paragraphs written in 65 different languages which we were supposed to distribute to these people.

The census as configured without the citizenship question is a bald attempt by the left to count non-citizens to receive $1.5 trillion in federal funding to states, and to give them apportionment and representation in Congress. Another Obama strategy for turning red states blue.

Glad to be rid of this thankless job at minimal pay. Florida hourly pay for census enumerator is 30 percent lower than it is for enumerators in any other state.

We are now ruled by mobs and judges. They are alike in many respects.

If you want/need to work there should be much less taxing and frustrating jobs available. Preferably an indoor job. I can’t imagine doing what you did in the worst months of Florida’s weather.

Seems odd that people would put a chicken coop at a great distance from their house, and have to go unnecessarily far to feed the chickens, collect eggs, etc. Could you have missed seeing where a house used to stand?

My wife works for the census. They use aerial pictures and send workers to everything that exists- garages, building sites, solar panels, barns. All of them will be canvassed but nobody wants to work in the city.

Agreed that there probably was a house there many years ago—but I could not even see a foundation.

My guess was that the former house was some sort of shack that did not have a concrete foundation.

Very possible. The map should have been updated, though, since the house was probably gone for more than 10 years before your visit.

“Surprise Surprise Surprise, she’s an Obama judge, of course the article fails to mention that.”

Leftists are experts at judge shopping.

It's worse than that. In Florida, if you have an ITIN number (issued by the Treasury Dept to anyone at all) you can get a state ID card which lists your home address as "I-275 Underpass at U.S. 301" (if that is the underpass where your cardboard box is located.) Then, with that same ID card, you can actually register to vote.

CNBC - the business channel - is live broadcasting the transport of RBG’s casket from the Supreme Court to the Capitol. <<

off topic as well......Trump, wearing a mask, payed his respects to RBG at the SC and the press spent hours telling how he was booed......

Did they cover Bidens visit????...oh wait!....Hes in his basement with the “lid” on and a “Do Not Disturb” sign on the doorknob....Normal procedure for a candidate running for POTUS.....smh

I take it Scalia’s funeral didn’t get this kind of coverage.

Koh the Bammy Ho, "stuffed" by Leader McConnell!

face with tears of joy face with tears of joy face with tears of joy face with tears of joy face with tears of joy face with tears of joy

On February 25, 2016, president Obama nominated Koh to serve as a United States Circuit Judge of the United States Court of Appeals for the Ninth Circuit, to the seat vacated by Judge Harry Pregerson, who took senior status on December 11, 2015.

On July 13, 2016 a hearing on her nomination was held before the United States Senate Committee on the Judiciary.

On September 15, 2016 her nomination was reported out of committee by a vote of 13–7. Her nomination expired on January 3, 2017, with the end of the 114th Congress.

President Donald Trump would later appoint Daniel P. Collins to the same seat in 2019
