A federal judge has stopped the 2020 census from finishing at the end of September and ordered the once-a-decade head count of every U.S. resident to continue for another month through the end of October, saying a shortened schedule likely would produce inaccurate results.
U.S. District Judge Lucy Koh in California made her ruling late Thursday, two days after hearing arguments from attorneys for the Census Bureau, and attorneys for civil rights groups and local governments that had sued the Census Bureau in an effort to halt the 2020 census from stopping at the end of the month. Attorneys for the civil rights groups and local governments said the shortened schedule would undercount residents in minority and hard-to-count communities.

The census office should just say OK and continue doing with the Trump plan. Keep the census takers at home due to covid.

Why not for 6 more months? This is ridiculous.
I worked for the Census Bureau a long long long time ago and have amazing stories.
Here is one.
The census map I was given said that there was a home to be counted in a very rural area down a dirt road.
I drive out there and see no homes or any people at all on the dirt road.
I long around for a while, carefully studying the map.
Where is this place?
Then it hit me. I was standing in front of the remains of an old chicken coop.
(Whenever I hear about “accurate” census counts I keep wondering how many chickens had been in the count decades earlier. :-) )
Chickens are people too, you Speciesist!
Oh, goody. Maybe they’ll be able to ask me yet again about an empty house I’m caring for. I’ve already told them twice no one lived there on 4/1 but then they mailed me again.

Don’t count your chickens...
What would the judge do if someone told her no, probably for the first time in her life? She needs to hear it early and often.
The chickens have come home to roost.
So the mail in census is not working but the mail in voting will?
F-ing Marxists. They lie, cheat and riot to try to get their way.
They should give the same response as the Obama Administration did when they were told to search for records (e.g. Clinton emails). “We didn’t find any.” Of course that they never looked for them on the server was not held against them by the judges.
I never knew, until Trump became president, that a Federal judge’s authority extended over all non-judicial aspects of government — legislative, and especially, executive. It used to be limited to rulings on court cases.
She was confirmed 90-0 in June 2010.
We MUST, with a head on attack by an upright POTUS, get out of this unconstitutional quandary of judges writing federal policy. Elections, not the courts, is where those of a different opinion must be required to take their complaint. Judges are not elected and not authorized by the Constitution to be legislators.
The notion that any policy is unconstitutional because some party, any party, is “disadvantaged” by the policy is pure intellectual dishonesty. SOMEONE is almost always disadvantaged and someone else advantaged by any and every government policy.
You want a different policy, vote to kick out the folks making a policy you do not like. You should not be allowed to simply get a judge to agree with you, and get that judge to tell the executive to give the policy you want. That makes judges legislators, not judges.
