I worked as a census enumerator for five weeks this year from August through mid-September but just resigned due to damage to my 22 year old pickup (from the stop and go nature of the job) and from utter exhaustion from stupidly trying to work two jobs at age 71.

Secondarily it became frustrating for me to have to climb six flights of stairs to reach one apartment unit only to have the respondent slam the door in my face. Apartment complexes in Florida mostly do NOT have elevators. It’s a young population in this county. And to have to wear the mask in 90 degree heat and humidity even though the county ordinance here only specifies masks for indoor public spaces not outdoor. I never went into an enclosed space to interview a respondent.

Then I believe as many as 85 percent of my contacts were non-English speaking foreign nationals. We were given tons of language sheets which had paragraphs written in 65 different languages which we were supposed to distribute to these people.

The census as configured without the citizenship question is a bald attempt by the left to count non-citizens to receive $1.5 trillion in federal funding to states, and to give them apportionment and representation in Congress. Another Obama strategy for turning red states blue.

Glad to be rid of this thankless job at minimal pay. Florida hourly pay for census enumerator is 30 percent lower than it is for enumerators in any other state.

If you want/need to work there should be much less taxing and frustrating jobs available. Preferably an indoor job. I can’t imagine doing what you did in the worst months of Florida’s weather.
