Trump to Make Supreme Court Nomination Friday or Saturday. President has five women under consideration to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg

President Trump said he would nominate a Supreme Court pick on Friday or Saturday and has five women under consideration to replace Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg, as Senate Republicans lined up behind him and Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R., Ky.), rejecting Democrats’ calls to let the winner of the presidential election make the pick.

Mr. Trump maintained that the replacement of Justice Ginsburg, who died Friday of metastatic pancreatic cancer at the age of 87, should happen swiftly. “We won the election and elections have consequences,” he said Monday morning on Fox News. “We have plenty of time.”

The president’s list has been narrowed to two leading candidates, according to people familiar with the matter: federal appellate judges Amy Coney Barrett of the Seventh Circuit, in Chicago, and Barbara Lagoa of the 11th Circuit, in Atlanta.

The president said he has three other people to choose from, though declined to name them. He said he was looking for someone who is young and could serve on the court for a long time. “We’re looking for a good person.”

Judge Barrett, 48 years old, was confirmed to the U.S. Circuit Court of Appeals in October 2017 in a 55-43 vote. She is popular among social conservatives and was a finalist for the post in 2018 when Mr. Trump chose Justice Brett Kavanaugh. Judge Lagoa, 52, previously served as the first Hispanic woman on Florida’s high court.

More than 20 Senate Republicans said over the weekend that they back moving immediately to fill the vacancy, and many are expected to follow suit as the week gets under way. Two Republican senators—Sens. Susan Collins of Maine and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska—broke ranks this weekend, saying they oppose action on a nomination before the presidential election.

Not good, every minute that passes makes the pre election vote less likely. he should have announced it this afternoon.

I agree BUT am sure he has his 'reasons'...

However,

Have had it up to ''''''HERE'''''' with 'big news' coming 'sooner or later'

As to the LIBs, I ran across this great line associated with Vlad the Impaler....

“None of us like each other, but one thing is for sure, we all hate you.”

RoChe Montoya, The 2nd Realm

That is a line the LIBS use on themselves inre PDJT in particular, all of us in general

ACB is the one.

She’s the most qualified, she has the most experience, and she has the fire.

Now is not the time to play identity politics.

Larsen gets good reviews on her polish. Barrett apparently not as good in some of her confirmation responses.

And do we really want a Jeb/Marco Justice even if she has a toughness to her?

IMPORTANT
Sunday on ABC’s “This Week,” Sen. Ted Cruz (R-TX) said he believed President Donald Trump’s Supreme Court pick would be confirmed before the election.

Cruz said such action was justified by the U.S. Senate, given the possibility the high court would have to weigh in on the presidential election.

JOE BIDEN has been explicit. He has said, IF HE DOESN’T WIN HE WILL CHALLENGE THE ELECTION. He’s going to go to court. He’s going to challenge it. He’s already hired a big legal team. Hillary Clinton has told Joe Biden, “Under no circumstances should you concede.” Given that, there is a serious risk of a constitutional crisis, IF JOE BIDEN is bringing litigation, like we had in Bush v. Gore but IN FIVE OR TEN STATES…

It talks about the epic battle where AL GORE CHALLENGED THE ELECTION RESULTS, AND FOR 36 DAYS, THE COUNTRY WAS HELD IN CHAOS.

Well, IF JOE BIDEN DOES THIS AGAIN THIS YEAR AND WE HAVE AN EQUALLY DIVIDED 8 (SUPREME COURT), 4-4, CAN’T DECIDE ANYTHING.

That could make this PRESIDENTIAL ELECTION DRAGS ON FOR WEEKS AND MONTHS AND WELL INTO NEXT YEAR! That is an INTOLERABLE SITUATION FOR THIS COUNTRY. We NEED a FULL COURT ON ELECTION DAY, given the VERY HIGH LIKELIHOOD that we’re going to SEE LITIGATION THAT GOES TO COURT.

WE NEED A SUPREME COURT THAT CAN GIVE A DEFINITIVE ANSWER FOR THE COUNTRY.

Picking a Supreme Court nominee based on upping your voter base is the stupidest idea ever.

You are right, just like so many black college students have no idea who Thomas Sowell and Walter Williams are. But they know who Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton are. So sad.

I am so torn and confused at this point. Simple solution!

The Dims want 11 Justices so fine. The President nominates Barrett, Britt and Lagoa and gives the Dems their 11 Justices. Trump can say I am acting in a bipartisan manner and giving the Dems what they want! That would make it a 8 conservative 3 liberal and who knows what Roberts is thinking. Just to have parity the Dems, when in control, would have to raises the Justices to 17. They would need 19 to have a majority.

Best part would be watching their heads explode when Trump floats the idea!

.........when my daughter, a CPA and controller of a medium size company, announced her engagement I asked her if she was going to hyphenate her name......she said No, something that Dad agreed with.

I tend to lean toward the anti communist Lagoa. One reason is that she doesn’t feel the feminist need to hyphenate her name.

Did Ginsburg, ever, every cross over and vote with conservatives in a split vote that may have made a difference?
