AOC owes $2,000 in unpaid taxes from failed business venture

US Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez wants to raise taxes on the rich — but not pay her own.

The Democratic socialist congresswoman from The Bronx still hasn’t paid a 7-year-old tax bill left over from a failed business venture.

AOC had founded Brook Avenue Press, a publishing house that sought designers, artists and writers from urban areas to help paint The Bronx in a positive way in children’s stories, in 2012.

As The Post previously reported, public records show the state dissolved the company in October 2016. The state can make such a move when a business fails to pay corporate taxes or file a return.

The state Tax Department then filed a warrant against her now-defunct business on July 6, 2017, over a $1,618.36 unpaid bill.

Democrat politicians don’t pay taxes. It’s an unwritten rule.

““The congresswoman is still in the process of contesting the tax warrant. The business has been closed for several years now, and so we believe that the state Tax Department has continued to collect the franchise tax in error,” said Lauren Hitt, an AOC spokeswoman.”

Even if AOC is right then this confirms how incompetent and corrupt government tax collection entities are and why we certainly don’t want to give them even more power and control.

So what?
Omar is an illegal invader, guilty of multiple crimes here, and holds an equal seat in the HOR.
Doesn’t seem to matter to anyone in a position to do something about either one of them.

If I understand New York's tax code correctly, this is an idiotic tax that will probably end up getting written off as "uncollectable."

I believe this is a "franchise fee" type of a tax that is imposed on a business regardless of how much income it generates. So AOC's failed business venture may have a $1,600+ tax liability but $0 of income to pay it.

If the business was set up as an LLC, a lawyer would probably advise her NOT to pay it out of her own pocket -- since that may constitute a mingling of personal and company assets that may strip her of any legal protection she has through the LLC.
