The marriage rate in the United States has dropped to its lowest point since someone began keeping records, and anyone who is not a man-hating feminist knows that is a bad sign for the future.
A new report from the National Center for Health Statistics shows marriages fell 6 percent from 2018 to reflect an average 6.5 unions per 1,000 people, the lowest number since the federal government began keeping records in 1867.

Marriage is on the decline because the first time my grandmother saw my father kiss my mother, she said they had to get married.
Too extreme? yes :) And they got married because they were in love.
But today, you need a bar, 50 bucks and a bartender who makes strong drinks to bring a girl home to your bed.
Use to be women traded sex for a lifetime of love and caring and commitment
Now they trade it for a few drinks.
Homosexuals marrying is a symptom, not the cause of the decline of marriage.
You are absolutely correct. During the 1960-70s, my mother used to say that women were just giving away their power.
I have to comment again because your post was possibly the most eloquent — and accurate — analysis of the problem I’ve ever read.
The single power that drives men crazy enough to propose and get married!!
When you’re not, you wake up in the morning and if it’s her house you get out of there like you committed a crime!!
Or maybe turning Joe into Pajama Boy. There are a lot of women who don’t want to marry *that*.
Or as my former District Attorney less eloquently but no less accurately said:
"We all pay for sex."
What you are describing is simply the fruits of the sexual revolution, of which the homosexual rights movement is the apex.
So, the authors were right.
I believe the welfare state destroyed marriage. It used to be that a strong family was needed to survive and succeed in the world. Now the family is an impediment to success ... and you just vote for free sh!t when life gets tough.
Paternal grandmother or maternal grandmother? Curious. No agenda implied by the question.
I wanted to say my mom’s mother but I drew a blank at the time :)
My pop’s mom probably would have said the same thing. :)
Not until the late 30s or later in this country did female Italian immigrants or even daughters of immigrants have a lot of say in who they were going to marry.
It wasn’t “arranged” but it was “understood”
Perhaps, but it has not helped the concept of marriage one bit.
I liken marriage redefinition (thats what it is) as the maggots eating away at the carcass of the dead, or dying, host. Of course you cant blame the maggots for the hosts condition, but they are an agent of destruction nonetheless.
If nothing else, this continuing trend exposes the lie of the Gaystapos argument during the various court cases to strike down marriage. They claimed that they and their partners marriage was essential to protect the children that they both were raising as parents. But the trend of the sexual anarchist is to produce parentless children, increasingly wards of the state or single parents, which makes marriage irrelevant. No wonder more and more people dont want to marry anymore.
Actually the authors blamed it on dad marrying dad.
Marriage was in decline way before that.
I have no problem with Joe marrying Joey [Heatherton].
Youre not disproving anything I said. I stated that marriage has declined as a result of the sexual revolution, which as been around for over 50 years. The homosexual movement is a direct branch of this revolution. What did I say that you dont get?
Always a pleasure to read your posts, FRiend dp.
Women have always been manipulative, which wasn’t so bad back in the day before they could vote, etc. The man was the head of the household, but the wife really ran things while he went out and made a living for the whole family. A decent and sensible balance of power/responsibility.
Today, the balance is so out of whack that I never even gave serious thought to getting married. I’ve seen too many basically decent guys get taken to the cleaners by vengeful ex-wives. And a lot of the ones who avoid divorce rape become meek little drones whose entire vocabulary consists of “yes, dear.”
And from what I’ve been able to observe, a lot of these women are nothing but walking bad attitudes.
I would say this to American women in general: A sense of entitlement is a terrible burden to carry through life — not only for you, but even more for everyone around you.
Nope, not for me. I’m not a wealthy man but I live pretty much as I please. I’ve got food in the fridge, booze in the bar, cigars in the humidor, and plenty of books and music. I have to watch my budget, but so does just about everyone else.
There are a lot worse things in life than being alone. One of them is being taken advantage of.
You’re right in all of that.
I’ll be 52 in 2 weeks and there’s no mrs.
When I ask most of my friends how the married life is after 5 or 10 years they usually say “at least I got the kids out of it”
I’m sure there are happy marriages out there but if it wasn’t for me for all this time, then I guess I dont’ want it.
Could have done it a number of times.
Thing is I had a huge Italian family and loneliness is a thing for me. But like I said, it is what it is.
Agreed. There was an understanding that certain acts implied commitment. The “acts” may have varied by community, but everybody in the neighborhood knew when a couple had passed from flirtation to serious commitment. And to leave them alone to figure how to work it out, which they usually did for 50+ year marriages and several kids.
Yeah, the good old days.
It’s funny and good I guess.
out of my old neighborhood of about 20 guys with Italian ancestry, no one is divorced, 1 had a kid out of wedlock and one (me) isn’t married and doesn’t have kids.
That’s a great record for this day and age.
And don’t ask. I don’t know how it happened either :) I wanted 5 kids since I was 18.
Gonna be 52 in a few weeks and I don’t even try to figure out what happened :)
