The ironic part is they will blame Capitalism for the collapse.

That would just be the opening act.
If the economy collapses, critical public infrastructure would soon deteriorate. Imagine the lights go out — and stay out. Big cities would become unlivable hellholes practically overnight. Then, it would get worse.
Or, imagine the health problems arising if sewage systems get blocked up — that's already close to happening locally because so many people are flushing disinfecting wipes.

Maybe its because I am a hospice chaplain and I am hardened, but my first reaction to this was people die every day, should the living give up on life? She means well, but that don't get the wood that you need to heat the place to keep from freezing to death split and stacked, does it?

Nope. Just like hurricanes, tornadoes and earthquakes never happened until people started drilling for oil and climate change suddenly appeared. /s

Good luck trying to convince the handful of pearl clutchers in here. An economy of +20% unemployment will lead to many more dead that this virus could muster on it’s best days.

Also you are part of the problem, not part of the solution Kate Hack. Nice try.

Just read this:
During a pandemic that lasted two years from its outbreak in the U.S., between 50 million and 100 million people across the globe died. Spanish flu killed more people than any pandemic disease before or since, including the sixth-century Plague of Justinian, the medieval Black Death, the AIDS epidemic or Ebola.

Oddly enough, Kate, you sanctimonious self-righteous demagogue, people have been dying every day since there have been people. I hope the next one is you.

That there is a correlation between populist leaders and the time taken to accept reality. The extra days and weeks Trump, Johnson et al needed to bust the myth of their own exceptionalism have already cost lives. :
BS - Trump closed down flights from China while liberals at the New York Times and Washington Post were calling him 'racists'... The fact Trump was willing to move as fast as he did was a testament to his natural and corrupt contempt for the MSM...

This world will BURN. We are just in the early stages now. People have been used to prosperity for so long, and have had it so easy, they think that food, water, electricity, heat and cool just magically HAPPEN. Well, they don't. BILLIONS are going to find that out when the health-care panickers destroy the economy, both here in America and worldwide.
And when things get bad enough, war will begin. It is inevitable-- when resources are scarce, it always happens.

The wealthy care, and most truly dont care about anyone other than themselves and their immediately family.
But the poor people are so altruistic and care about everyone! They never are racist, and they are pure as the driven snow. /s
