Need to give her a tour of the homeless encampments around Los Angeles and ask her how many multiple of that she is good with.

"That there is a correlation between populist leaders and the time taken to accept reality. The extra days and weeks Trump, Johnson et al needed to bust the myth of their own exceptionalism have already cost lives."

In the case of Trump the statement is demonstrably false.

When you premise your propaganda on a lie, then it really isn't anything but fake news, and not a contribution to solving a serious, worldwide problem that is causing a lot of suffering.

How many deaths so far from regular flu that’s not being reported?

To a liberal, everything is about the extension of liberalism.

So, here’s the question for this one:

Who cares about liberalism when people are dying?

Communists spent most of the 20th century starving their citizens to death and otherwise murdering them. It seems like they are off to a good start in this century as well.

This headline should really read: “Who cares about people dying in a destroyed global economy when our ideological goals are coming to fruition?”

Meanwhile, as countries including the United States rush to introduce the biggest economic stimulus packages in their history, it is worth considering that if small government offers no cure in a pandemic, it may not be the healthiest option in ordinary times either.

And what evidence is their that "small government offers no cure"? None whatsoever.

Actually, using her dollar metric, so far smaller governments seem to be doing a pretty good job. And the largest, and most intrusive of governments like the one in China are actually at least partially responsible for the problem existing in the first place.

When wealthy people are so concerned about the dangerous whatever that they stop caring about their wealth, then I’ll be more concerned too. Otherwise...dangerous whatever is maybe not so dangerous. If they can make money in the market, then I can too.

These people must think “stocks” are like doubloons that Uncle Scrooge has piled in his basement amidst the coins and jewels and bearer bonds and currency piles.

Hey. Stocks=Economy. Who cares if the entire world goes into a deep depression. Starvation, Disease, Pestilence, War. Aren’t there thousands of square miles of locusts swarming in Africa now?

Yup. The heck with “stocks,” Kate, you’re so woke!

The global economy is imploding, but it is difficult to care when there are people gasping for air.

Bull crap. Everything is an optimization problem with multiple aspects that have different cost factors. You cant ignore the nations economic security or other aspects for a single issue. You have to thread the needle so that the overall cost is minimized. That cost is spread over lives, economics, and other social factors of importance, like freedom.

Actually I saw a report. Deaths worldwide this flu season estimated to hit 80,000.

So, meh.

You are right, and intelligent people are worried about the economy imploding and taking care of people.

Seeing people suffering in hospitals is unsettling, but seeing people starving to death all over a nation is much worse.

Keeping the world economy running is essential, because without it the level of suffering that will occur is much, much higher.

Lunatic. More people will die if the economy collapses. Death, disease, & misery.
