“how about tax reductions until things stabilize? Cutting federal taxes by half would really help my Family.”

You are a maker of society like my wife and I-the ones who actually pay taxes. A tax cut though we would love it would not help what is going on in this particular case.
Soon there are going to be hundreds of thousands laid off. People laid off do not pay taxes and will not help buying power.

We had a planned $35k new driveway, sidewalks and retaining wall planned for next month and we cancelled it until we know we are not heading into a great depression and have stopped all non essential spending. A tax cut would just go into the bank.

What an idiot. That money will do no good when you can’t find food or necessities. In fact, it will dilute the value of money so everything will cost more.

The problem now is stores are on reduced hours, restaurants closed, and delivery services swamped. Lines at drive-thrus are already getting long. Soon there will be no way to get your car in line at the drive-thru.

I estimate 2 weeks, and there will be tempers rising and fighting over bag of french fries.

Tax reductions make far more sense than a “basic income” scheme, which is just - welfare. If the person is ALREADY on welfare, or is getting assistance in kind like rental subsidy or food stamps, then address the problem through any of these programs, but DO NOT add a new layer of “entitlement”.

WHEN does/will the gubmint spigot turn off?

Wrong question. When do we say enough? Crap happens and people should accept some responsibility and plan for it. How many times have you heard "always have 3 months worth of cash available for emergencies"? People have abdicated their responsibilities to the gov't and it's time to say enough. If this goes through, it will never stop, and we all know it.

Tax cuts up the food chain (employers) would help re-ignite business.

No matter what is done, please don't allow anyone to forget about the self-employed like me.

I am not able to collect unemployment by laying myself off.

UBI is a safety net you have for life, for any unemployment event. A one-time stipend for this temporary event is not a lifelong commitment...but it will be used to justify a true UBI, you can bet on that.

I see so much stupid it astounds me.

And, the problem with stupid people is that aren’t smart enough to know how stupid they are. Plus, they can vote and also get voted in to office.

Italy has huge numbers of Chinese workers in their shoe and textile industries. Many of them went back to China for Chinese New Year and then returned to Italy. Human biological time bombs. Plus, Italy has a large elderly population most vulnerable to this virus.

Cotton is out of his cotton-pickin’ mind.

What is the money going to buy if the sources of production are shut-down? Inflation or rationing.
