HERINGTON, Kan. (WIBW/Gray News) – A Kansas police officer is no longer employed after he “fabricated” a story that a McDonald’s employee wrote an expletive on his coffee cup over the weekend.

Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday confirmed in a news conference Monday that the officer resigned from his agency.

Hornaday said this is a "black-eye on the law enforcement community."

The officer confessed to making up the story after the chief investigated.

This was never really in doubt. Good to see my hoax detector is still perfectly calibrated.

So in this particular case, the receipt was actually accurate.

Hornaday said this is a "black-eye on the law enforcement community."

Originally, he said “This is not only bad for McDonalds, but it is also a black eye for Junction City.”

Even if it were not a hoax, that was pretty over the top to impugn the whole town over such a minor incident. Seems Mr Hornaday owes all of the fine folks of Junction City an apology.

FWIW, all the cops I’ve known just called them a “throwdown”. Back in the day, as in the 80’s and prior, everyone had one “just in case”. Now they are not nearly as common, but obviously still a thing.
