For a couple of days anyway. I’m thinking that a small department somewhere will quietly pick him up. That happens all the time in my neck of the woods. A bad cop gets fired. Then he’s hired somewhere else.

now they should go back to re-investigate every case he touched that resulted in a conviction to make sure he didn’t fabricate the evidence

I think I see the problem.
Two MPs lied about me in an official report. One charge was "insubordination". Unfortunately for them they were both E-4s and I was an E-5. The other charge amounted to "disturbing the peace in a combat zone". It was their word against mine.
Luckily the military is corrupt enough that a credible threat to reveal the corruption does wonders for one's case. The charges were dropped.
Some would use 4... but a real cop would never go attention-whoring against a business over the supposed actions of a teen employee just to score ‘apology food.’ Not even for donuts.
They’d just go somewhere else, because most 24-hr businesses offer free coffee just to encourage the police drive by regularly in the wee hours.
I wonder if any of his cop buddies noticed the tell tale clue he was a liar when he drank it instead of throwing it away.
