HERINGTON, Kan. (WIBW/Gray News) – A Kansas police officer is no longer employed after he “fabricated” a story that a McDonald’s employee wrote an expletive on his coffee cup over the weekend.
Herington Police Chief Brian Hornaday confirmed in a news conference Monday that the officer resigned from his agency.
Hornaday said this is a "black-eye on the law enforcement community."
The officer confessed to making up the story after the chief investigated.

In cop lingo, throwaway guns are called “ham sandwiches”.
People who make false charges should be very severely punished. That includes “rape” victims and it includes cops who want to be famous.
It’s bad enough when it really happens but for a LEO to hoax is not good.
Our society used to value rugged individualism, bravery and accomplishments. Now we value victim-hood, and everyone wants in on it.

The tip off is always when the insult is too much like they want the media attention.

This is the very first time, I’ve known where an Officer makes up an abuse story. This person should stop being a cop today. There is something screwy in the noggin. Some deep insecurity to throw a good job and all that training out the window. And for what? Nobody wins here.
People don't just steal money, they run off with all sorts of food or sleeves of cups or whatever. And some people will banging each other in the drive through if they aren't afraid of being caught...especially underage employees working their first boring job.
So the police chief knows because (as an earlier article mentioned) the store owner reviewed the camera footage and there was no note written on the receipt when the food was handed to the Officer.
