Did AOC spend too much on a haircut? NYC women reveal what they pay at the salon

How much is too much to blow on a new ‘do?

Ever since Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez got the $260 cut and color heard ’round the world, reactions have been mixed. Detractors accuse her of “champagne socialism,” while others argue the price tag is within reason for a public figure — and a New Yorker at that.

“I don’t think it’s outlandish,” megastylist Scott Buchanan tells The Post. Prices at his five NYC-area Scott J salons start at $75 for a cut and $90 for color, with lowlights such as the ones AOC received starting at $160.

He also notes that a haircut with celebrity hairdresser Frederic Fekkai costs $750.

A 2016 report by digital payment company Square found that New York women spend an average of $50.80 on a professional shear. (The price dips down to $41.30 for men.)

Supercuts is just not going to do the job.

If what you mean is that AOC wouldn't be caught dead in Supercuts, then I agree with you.

It's less about what she gets done than where she's seen doing it.

And that attitude, which isn't exclusive to AOC, is why are our pols are a menace.

Not her but her husband in name only. It was at LAX IIRC.

If she paid from her $175,000 Congressional salary, I’m not going to complain. At least she spent it from the money they grant themselves to live on—though I think it right to point out she wants taxpayers to live frugally without practicing what she preaches. For her constituents’ sake, I hope she spent the money in her Congressional district! :-)

You may be right that what we pay them is a factor in what the ‘do cost and her willingness to pay it.

If she deflected the cost to taxpayers in some other way, or received it as a favor, I would definitely have a problem with that.

I’ll happily complain since I think the attitude behind that $300 haircut exemplifies why this nation is trillions in debt.

Wouldn’t be an issue if she weren’t using taxpayer money for it, and telling everyone to reduce their incomes.

I go to a cosmetology school for a cut. Ya really take yer chances there. The last one was amazingly good. Almost talked her into becoming a barber. $12 at the door - $10 ‘unheard of’ tip at her table. Pffft - gas money for her.

Total canard. She’s elected, she’s paid. What once was tax money is now hers like it or not. Unless she was dipping HoR funds for personal grooming it’s not “taxpayer money”. You may not like it, but that’s the way it is.

Yes, can we focus on how she wants to spend money from the US Treasury?

I’m with you that government spending is out of control.

It burns me up that there are people who are are on public assistance who spend $300/month on self-destructive habits.

Or that we pay $300 apiece for mil-spec toilet seats.

Or that government employees find ways to spend $300 on themselves and charge it to an agency account.

It ain’t just Congress critters that engage in robbing the taxpayer. Plenty of taxpayers are also hand-over-fist tax-takers.

Is it overpriced. Yes. Is it unusual. Probably not.

Take a poll of businesswomen, (not execs or CEOs, but project managers and directors) and see what they pay. I’d be curious.

The issue isn’t the regular cost of a haircut—it is her socialist hypocrisy.

You get a huge difference between the "one week from graduation" students and the "first time with an actual human head". But then you probably have the same issues with neurosurgeons too.

That’s the heart of the matter which the Fake News is trying to hide.
