I know some Boers (white Dutch) people from South Africa. True African-Americans. But, anytime someone around me mentions African-American, I always make sure I interject and ask what part of Africa. And, inevitably, have to explain the difference between being a black American with African heritage/ancestry, and someone who is actually African-American. Same with the difference between American-Indians and Tribal Americans.
