During NRA speech, Trump drops out of another global arms treaty

President Trump announced Friday that he would un-sign the global arms pact known as the Arms Trade Treaty in the latest illustration of his aversion to international pacts and world governance.

“We will never allow foreign bureaucrats to trample on your Second Amendment freedom,” Trump said during a speech before the National Rifle Association in Indianapolis. “I’m officially announcing today that the United States will be revoking the effect of America’s signature from this badly misguided treaty.”

The origins of the treaty, which sets out international rules for sales and transfers of everything from small arms to large planes and ships, date to the George W. Bush administration. It was negotiated under the auspices of the United Nations and signed in 2013 under President Barack Obama but has never been ratified by U.S. lawmakers.

Appearing at the NRA changes no laws. The NRA is in total turmoil and the organization is a risk.

While the lying Democrat media will report that this treaty was to ban the sale of weapons by international gun dealers, it had morphed into a Second Amendment issue that would have let the U.N. interfere with private gun sales in the US...which is why Obozo was so happy to put his signature on it.
It was a master stroke of President Trump to bring a notice of revocation of this treaty to the NRA convention this morning, which he signed with a flourish to massive cheers from the crowd. He was in fighting form in this speech, and if you can find a rerun of it on CSPAN, do watch it. One of his best speeches ever, also honoring citizens who saved their lives or the lives of others because they were armed. Amazing.

““By not participating in the ATT, the United States is undermining global norms around the arms trade,” she said. “It says to other countries, ‘the U.S. could become less responsible, so why shouldn’t I?’”

It was never ratified. Obama knew it wouldn’t be ratified, but signed anyway.

Although this will be portrayed by the MSM as Trump’s arbitrary decision, the over-reach was Obama’s. Here, and with the Paris Accord as well.

Until a Federal judge rules that President Trump’s signature can not override President Obama’s signature.

Me either. I saw that man-made disaster coming a mile away. Took a lot of guff on some other sites that I don't visit anymore. Time proved me right.

1984 to 2016 was a long time to wait to be proud of a presidential vote. Reagan, hold nose a bunch of times, Trump.

That was before I knew what a POS McStain was. Thanks to FR, now I know.

BTW, I was old enough to vote for Reagan's second term. McStain & Romney never had the fire that Regan had. One could almost sense they were going to lose, and lose big to a pot-smoking community organizer.

McStain & Romney never had the fire that Reagan had.

Every twenty years or so, a Romney slithers out of the ooze to try and stab the Republican party in the back, then retreats into the muck again. Mitt's father stabbed Barry Goldwater, then tried to stab Reagan. Mitt's as bad as his father. BTW, Mitt's father was a Saul Alinsky fan.
