Notre Dame cathedral has caught fire, according to the Parisian fire service and eyewitnesses.
Footage posted online shows a large fire engulfing the upper part of the cathedral, with the flames licking around its two bell towers.
A major operation was under way, the fire department added, while a city hall spokesman said on Twitter that the area was being cleared.
Officials in Paris said the fire could be linked to renovation works being carried out at the cathedral.
It comes after France's Saint Sulpice church , used in the filming of Dan Brown’s ‘Da Vinci Code’ thriller, caught fire in March.

Let’s not jump to conclusions...France has a ton of anarchist, Jacobin types that have historically been the main persecutors of the Church.

Nobody knows yet, but if it was started by Muslim terrorists, the French government will never admit it. About 50 churches have been vandalized in France in the last few months, and while they haven’t caught most of the perpetrators, the few they have caught have been Muslims. The police, however, might be politically incorrect enough to defend themselves by giving some stats, and they just revealed yesterday that the St. Denis fire was started by a Muslim (of course, as usual, “with mental problems,” overlooking the fact that Islam IS a mental problem).
This is kind of the French 9/11, but will they wake up? No. We did, and then the left got into it and we went back to sleep and now our president is in trouble for challenging Ihlan Omar’s trivializing Muslim narrative about 9/11.
Add to this that the French are much more scared of their Muslim population (a number of whom were no doubt working on the “restoration” that mysteriously burst into flames) and much more leftwing than even the US Dems.
It is ISLAMIC JIHAD during Holy Week!

Notre Dame is on an island in the Seine. It's the oldest part of Paris; the city there dates back to Roman times.

Well, I see a message to Catholics. At one time, France was called “the eldest daughter of the Church.” That Our Lady’s Cathedral was destroyed at the beginning of Holy Week, I think is significant. Whether it was an accident or deliberate, Notre Dame is gone. An icon of Christian civilization has been wiped out.
Back in 63 my church in Manhattan burned. While maybe i/20th the size, one eight sq block, the Church of the Epiphany was modeleled after Notre Dame with twin bell towers. The FDNY struggled all night but the roof collapsed, then the walls, then the towers. It was heartbreaking. The FDNY were on the scene and fighting the fire in less than five minutes. To no avail
