UN Security Council: Germany, France share presidency
Deutsche Welle ^ | 04.01.2019 | Fabian von der Mark

Posted on 04/02/2019 10:50:26 PM PDT by Olog-hai

Germany is currently serving as a non-permanent member of the United Nations Security Council. From the beginning of April, it officially takes over the chair — as part of a “dual presidency” with France. […]

This closer UN cooperation was agreed by Berlin and Paris as part of the Treaty of Aachen. […]

From the beginning, Germany has placed an emphasis on promoting the idea of the UN; i.e., international cooperation and collaboration. Germany and France have adopted their multilateral approach in opposition to the growing nationalism of people like Donald Trump. The “dual presidency” already symbolizes this idea, but Germany and France have also coordinated closely with the other European members of the Security Council (currently the United Kingdom, Belgium and Poland). The EU countries are working together to preserve international agreements and treaties, like the Paris Climate Agreement and the INF Treaty on nuclear disarmament.

Within the Security Council, Germany and France are also insisting that UN resolutions must be adhered to: Germany’s Permanent Representative to the UN, Christoph Heusgen, for example, was recently strongly critical of the United States for breaking international law by recognizing Jerusalem as the capital of Israel, and for its opposition to the UN resolution on the Golan Heights. …

[ UN Security Council: Germany, France share presidency ]

How very multi-cultural, how very progressive and how very New World Order-like.

These times we live in. They sure are interesting.

DJT needs to evict these squirrels from the US, raze the building and make the ground under the building into a park. Then take our money and build the damn wall on the southern border.

Sorry you corrupt bunch of career UN bureaucrats, the USA has her own laws and your laws don't mean squat to us.

This part especially may be worthy of a prophecy ping since these are two hot issues.

No. Raise the building and scrape every particle off the site but dirt. Then leave it bare dirt as a reminder of the scourge the UN is to mankind. Place a monument to that effect there.

Actually I think the mistake is in not having Germany and Japan both on the Security council before now. Also the decision permitting mainland China into the U.N. and on the security council should not have removed Taiwan, but had them both still represented.

Only as a forum and for no other reason, the Security Council is the ONLY piece of the U.N. and its bureaucracy worth keeping. The rest is purely international meddling by international bunglers.

No: all of the UN is worthless. The UNSC has been just as anti-American and anti-Israel as the rest of this communistic abomination.
How do you account for the fact that the United Nations Charter follows the format of the Russian (USSR) Constitution of 1936 rather than the format of the (Covenant of the) League of Nations? Would you feel there was any significance in the fact that the general secretary for the organization which drew up the charter was Alger Hiss? …

The Naked Communist, Chapter 8
The UN is one of the prime reasons why the Cold War went on as long as it did; it aided the rise of the Islamists; and now in a final indignity to use it as a platform for our WWII enemies—guess what that will achieve?

No.
Again, I emphasis, what my view is, which is that for one reason and one reason alone, and no other, the Security Council serves one very limited but still useful purpose - it is a forum. That reflects no other claims that the U.N. Security Council tries to make for itself.

Argumentum ad lapidem is a logical fallacy. And you seem to have forgotten the UNSC’s track record with respect to resolutions, particularly number 2334. It serves no purpose other than to undermine the United States, Israel and the allies thereof. And already Germany is using the UNSC as exactly that.

“Argumentum ad lapidem is a logical fallacy.” Look in the mirror, You are striking at windmills.

I have not accepted as good or needed ANYTHING about the UN Security Council, including its resolutions, other than the one one thing alone for which it remains “useful” - it is a forum; PERIOD; that is all.

All your arguments are straw arguments, because you and I have no argument about the things for which the U.N. security council is not needed nor useful. THAT fact does not make the executive forum it provides as totally not useful - it is.

You’re presenting opinion as fact. I already cited the UNSC’s track record via one example; this is no strawman. There are already other examples in the body of the OP article, particularly Germany’s intent to push left-wing agenda items not related to actual world security and the antisemitic spirit of Resolution 2334.

The UNSC serves no use as a forum and never has, unless as a forum to push the left’s totalitarian agenda. It deserves no money from us, and ought to be disbanded and replaced with a forum that does not promote the destruction of its primary sponsor.

Think what a great hotel and casino it would make, and use the revenue to build the wall. But what about New York gambling laws? What about them. If California and New York can be sanctuary cities in defiance of federal law, the Federal Government can declare the UN campus and buildings federally owned by eminent domain, and defy New York laws.
