I Have Some Questions About The Democrats’ Reparations Plan
Townhall.com ^ | February 28. 2019 | Kurt Schlichter

So, Senator Willy Brown Side Piece and Senator Panders With Wolves have decided to so something even Felonia Milhous von Pantsuit never dared – they’ve come out in favor of reparations. “Reparations” is, of course, the notion that a bunch of people who are not guilty of slavery owe money to people who were not slaves for some reason that never quite gets explained but that you’re racist for wondering about.

This horrific idea is, not shockingly, really unpopular with the majority of people who did not do anything wrong but are expected to cut a check. It is, however, really popular with the leftist activists driving the out-of-control clown car that is today’s Democrat Party.

The Dem candidates are not crazy, and their plan is no doubt to gaslight the SJW suckers with this nonsense during the primaries to win the nomination. Once that mission is accomplished, they will pull the old “Just kidding!” when it comes time to campaign in the battered, opioid-shattered Midwestern states like Ohio and Michigan where the besieged white working class voters would be surprised to learn how privileged they are, as well as how in debt to people they never did anything wrong to.

Or maybe not. I mean, liberals are both incredibly dumb and morally bankrupt, and perhaps they would actually push for an unAmerican racial spoils system where you receive, or pay, cash because of something your great x 5 grandpa was or was not. But let’s get beyond how this whole idea is an atrocity that makes a mockery of everything Americans believe in. Let’s figure out how it is actually supposed to work.

I have questions. Several in fact. So, let’s take me, my wife, and my kids for example and see how this works out in practice.

Now, on the surface, I’m pretty much near the bottom in their heirarchy of racial grievances. The Schlichters came here from Germany before the Revolution and settled in rural Pennsylvania. Clearly, the world was my oyster. Sure, back in 1981, as I was swabbing out toilets in the Foster City, California, Carl’s, Jr., I did not have a solid understanding of the windfall of privilege bequeathed to me. Nor was it readily apparent as a Private First Class at basic training, except when Drill Sergeant Whittlesey would say “No push-ups for the college boy. Two hundred fifty years ago, his ancestors were in Bavaria, so he’s special.” My privilege is clearly the only reason I became a successful lawyer, writer, colonel, and Twitter legend. The decades of hard work were secondary, and anyone who thinks different is a racist.

You would think I’d need to pay full reparations freight, but hold on. My mom’s mom cruised over here from Scotland in about 1910. Do I get a break for that since it was a half-century after slavery ended? And it ended, in some tiny part, because of my great-great grandfather, or maybe great-great-great grandfather, who served with the Union Army in the Civil War. We’re pretty sure some other relatives did too. Oh, and the Confederates burned down the Schlichter hometown, Chambersburg. That’s got to be worth something. Basically, I think I’m entitled to a discount.

Now, my wife immigrated here from Cuba after the Democrats’ pal Fidel Castro started tossing her family in jail for liking freedom. And it gets more complicated – she did one of those 23 and Me DNA things, and she’s got a few percentage points of African and, bizarrely, Native American (more than Big Chief Warren, not that that’s hard). So, as a Latina immigrant of femaleness with some African and Native American heritage, I’m thinking not only does she not owe reparations, but she’s probably due a refund. Just make the check out to cash and I’ll make sure she gets it.

That brings us to our kids. So, they are half-Latin with some extras, and half-Anglo, but with some recent immigrant credit and bonus points for the Civil War. How much do they owe? Or do they get something back?

And what about other folks? How about those Nigerian guys hired by Jussie Smollett? Do they get money? Do they owe money, since clearly they are entrepreneurial immigrant innovators doing jobs Americans just won’t do, like helping fake hate crimes for oppressed dudes making $65K a week. And what’s Jussie Smollett owed by, say, an Illinois truck driver whose ancestors came over from Cork during the potato famine?

I’d like to know how all this works.

But, of course, it doesn’t work, because it’s stupid. And it’s not merely stupid; it is the anti-thesis of justice. The very idea these factors entitle or obligate you to anything is staggeringly immoral and utterly disgusting. Which explains its eager embrace by the Democrats.

But let’s put petty concerns about not being thoroughly evil aside and focus on practical questions, like what exactly does this pigmentation fine/windfall buy us? I mean, if we do this reparations thing, are we done? Are we finished with racial strife? What exactly are we expecting after the checks clear?

Everyone knows that when, say, AAA insurance pays off your auto claim, they make you sign a release that says, essentially, “Hey, for this $1,500, you release all your claims and can never sue for more.” We lawyers use releases all the time in settlements – we call it “buying your peace,” and once you pay off a settlement, the beef is finished, the dispute is resolved, and everyone is even. Is that how this works?

Is the whole leftists racial okey-doke over with forever once the reparations get paid?

SJW with Nosering: “Hey you, in the MAGA hat, you’re exercising your white privilege!”

Mysterious Stranger: “Stop right there, gender indeterminate individual!”

SJW with Nosering: “It’s the Reverend Al Sharpton!”

Reverend Sharpton: “That’s right, and I’m here to tell you that this whole race hustle thing is over, done, finito! Now you need to find something else to complain about!”

SJW with Nosering: “Thanks for the tip, Reverend Al! Hey you, in the MAGA hat, you’re a climate denier!”

Unlikely. These professional racial conmen are never giving up their grift. Reparations I will inevitably be followed by Reparations II: The Revenge.

What will resolve the racial divisions in this country is not a cash transfer but – and you liberals are going to hate this manifestly true statement of fact – a return to the Judeo-Christian values and principles of our Constitution that recognize the worth and dignity of each individual based upon his or her character, as well as a total repudiation of the racial hucksterism that is destroying our culture.

Until we reject the ethnic scammers and professional bigots who seek to make immutable characteristics like race, ethnicity, religion, and gender what defines an individual, our culture and politics will be a poisonous cesspool. It’s those creeps who owe all of us reparations – but I don’t want their money. I just want them to stop destroying my country.

Reparations: the split will be 90% to white lawyers 10% to slave descendants.

Politicians pay their masters not the voters.

When are the African countries that sold their people into slavery going to pay reparations?

My grandparents (both sides) emigrated here in the 1920s - well after slavery was long gone. Demonstrably, we (our family) did not own slaves, were not part of the US, never part of the system in the US that supported slavery. I absolutely believe we should be completely exempt from consideration or any financial burden.

Seems like a pretty simple judo approach on this would work. Support a Reparation Settlement Fund by giving the Historically Black Colleges a substantial contribution to their endowments, make them self-sustaining and even able to grow enrollment.

Set a standard for who gets what, to try to equal the contribution per African-American student currently attending (to make sure the money goes to the schools with the minority enrollments still mostly AA as well as to teach a lesson about about socialism since the wealthier HBCU’s would get less of a contribution - i.e., Grambling would get more per student than Southern).

Make DAMN sure it is the Republican proposal and that the more mainstream AA groups and church groups are on board. Isolate the radical AA groups and their far left allies into trying to argue against it. Have Ben Carson and Alveda King lead the initiative along with DeVos and find church leaders to support it. Have high profile HBCU graduates talk publicly about how important their alma maters were to them.

Takes the issue away forever, hard to argue against since the Left always cries about educational disadvantage, and makes anyone on the Left who argues against it look really petty.

As well as continue the Trump Admin inroads to the AA vote!

“Whats a Cornel?”

Two possibilities

High above Cayuga’s waters . . .
There’s an awful smell . . .
Some say it’s Lake Cayuga . . .
Others say it’s Cornel(l). . .

Or of course the professor Cornel West but . . .

Lee Roggenburg
Hobart ‘80

If they are going to charge me even though my ancestors came here in the late 1800s, they should also charge ALL of the voluntary immigrants from anywhere, including Africa.

All of the illegal immigrants MUST be identified and charged, too.

ANY & ALL ‘reparations’ MUST also DEDUCT every penny of welfare the entire family of 5-6 generations has collected since LBJ started paying the FERAL ARMY out of taxpayer’s labor results.

When it becomes CLEAR that they owe us for all those welfare payments, free Obamaphones, medical, judicial costs, etc., then hand them the bill & tell them to start using the hoe at the nearest row of lettuce.

I get riled up every time someone talks about ‘educational disadvantages’.

Both my Dad & one of my brothers ere in or connected to the printing business.

They both were working with TEXTBOOKS.

I have NEVER seen a different set of the following:
TEXTBOOKS
school desks
pens
pencils
compass
notebooks
lined paper
rulers
heat at the school
lights at the school
teachers at the school

I would love for a serious CONSERVATIVE candidate to appear at a debate & place a pair of school desks with a pile of school supplies on the desks on the podium-—one at each side.

Then, I would like that candidate to ask the audience:

WHICH ONE IS THE PILE OF SUPPLIES HANDED TO WHITES ONLY?

There is no such thing.

So my ancestors were Cherokee and Catawba. They actually hid the Cherokees during the Trail of Tears. The Government denied every claim laid by family members because they weren’t on the Cherokee rolls. Kind of makes sense since they were hiding them but I digress. Do I get reparations? Do I get extra credit for helping the Cherokee (okay well, I wasn’t there but my DNA was) or will that actually cost me? It’s all so confusing!

Careful, now — you'll get yourself banned from multiple ultra-leftist social media platforms like Facebook and Twitter for talking like that. I brought up exactly this point over at Quora and was threatened with banning after some hidden company doofus simply deleted my whole comment. It was that last bit of arrogant, one-sided censorship that moved me to abruptly cancel my membership, thus permanently removing all of my comments, most of which were arguably useful and on non-political topics. Screw them.

Truthfully, I went a little further than you. I asked straight out whether every single black citizen living today should be forced at gunpoint by the government to contribute to paying enormous reparations to the few remaining descendants of the vast number of white soldiers who died to free the slaves owned by a tiny minority of folks under a thuggish Democratic regime in the South. I specifically cited the incontrovertible historical fact that black tribesmen captured and sold other black tribesmen in Africa to Arab and other slave traders. Are black Africans and Arabs on the target list for "reparations"? What about all the Irish and other European refugees who arrived after the end of the Civil War? In what way were they, let alone their descendants, even remotely responsible for widespread slavery by Democrats?

I think somewhere along the way, I also asked about forced reparations from black citizens to the innumerable white victims of rape, robbery, other savage attacks, and outright murder by notably violent blacks across all sectors of society. More still, I pointedly asked whatever had happened to the literally trillions of dollars in welfare payments across the decades to blacks from white taxpayer money. You get the idea. As you can easily imagine, the shrill social justice howler monkeys went absolutely bonkers with hatred.

I am descended from an Irish slave by the name of Jacob Shirey. He was bought out of a jail in Bristol England in 1775 and sold on the auction block in Baltimore Maryland in 1775. I have documentation and can prove this. I also have MANY documented dead or wounded Family members from South Carolina and Pennsylvania who died in battle trying to keep this country together and free the slaves. How much reparations do I get??

I provided a link to the article at the bottom. It’s pretty funny, in a brutal sort of way...

The great fallacy is that slavery didn’t begin in America; absence of slavery is unusual worldwide and throughout history. Absence of slavery is restricted basically to places and times influenced by such as William Wilberforce - Christians, especially Protestants, and especially English-speaking Protestants after about 1700

I didn’t say all Christians; Epistle of Paul to Philemon, part of the New Testament, makes clear that Christianity did not begin with a condemnation of slavery as an institution.

And indeed the southern slaveowners were Christians - Christians who were situated to be "the last to get the word” that Christianity no longer condoned the institution. They argued biblically for it - they were the only ones to do so, because prior to that era the institution was not under attack and needed no defense. And yes, they fought to preserve it. If you can’t see how they could do so, I ask you to consider what your reaction would be if someone told you that electricity, natural gas, running water, oil, gasoline, automobiles, airliners, things made of plastic, and modern health care “weren’t Christian.” Because if all modern conveniences were taken away from you today, you would think yourself ill-used indeed.

And all that would be happening to you would be that you would be placed in exactly the same condition that a person without “servants” was in in 1860. You, Dear Reader, almost certainly have a higher standard of living than Queen Victoria did. Let alone a southern slaveowner. You grew up enjoying the fruits of electrical appliances and so forth, and they grew up having “servants.”

“Forty acres and a mule” doesn’t begin to compare with what Americans, black or white, inherit (if they survive “the right to choose” and are born) without anyone giving a thought to it. “Forty acres and a mule” is the opportunity to thrive through hard work, not an easy chair. And everyone born in America has that - or would, if the schools were well disciplined and fatherless boys weren’t shooting up neighborhoods.
