Nathan Phillips – “Vietnam Times” Veteran
This Aint Hell ^ | January 21, 2019 | Steve Balm

Posted on 01/21/2019 11:23:54 PM PST by LouieFisk

By now you have all seen the images and read about the controversy surrounding the encounter at a rally in Washington, D.C. involving some high school students and a Native American – Nathan Phillips.

Nathan is a tribal elder and has often been put forth as a Marine Corps Vietnam veteran.

We have filed for his military records but the point of this article is that there are stories all over the place about what Phillips’ status is and to do this right takes time.

But in the media’s rush to get a story out — what “facts” rise to the surface and what did Phillips actually say about his military service?

As a good example, in this CNN newscast, Phillips states that he is a “Vietnam Times Veteran” while CNN runs the label below him quoting him as saying “I am a Vietnam Veteran…” which is not what he said.

I think it's funny: back in the day you had to keep it to yourself that you'd been to Vietnam or risk having some know-it-all Leftys call you names.

Now, all these years later, old farts all over the place are claiming to be "Vietnam Veterans".

How things change..

When your whole life is dedicated an over-dramatic fake victim narrative a false military history is just an inevitable part of that.

Just like it is okay for the twisted MSM to claim THE kid was taunting old man.

Thanks for the link to the ‘72-'76 quote.

I agree that an Embassy assignment would have conveyed a lot of personal and political status on the Chief, if it happened.

Did you see the videos of the “Black Israelite” group that was screaming epithets at the Catholic kids?

This whole event is so bizarre and so provocative I can't help but wonder if the drum beating Chief and the Black guys are on the Soros payroll.

I’m a Vietnam Era vet but I don’t normally claim it because I got lucky and missed out on going to Vietnam by about 2 weeks. My two older brothers weren’t so lucky but came home ok.

I joined as an old private in ‘91 for a two year term to be a citizen soldier of Desert Storm. There were quite a few of us over 30 in Basic with the same plan, actually. On the last day of Basic the bulletin board had a newspaper front page posted “War Over!” So I went to Germany and the Soviet Union collapsed. Good times.

Again, WHAT’S YOUR POINT?

Chief Stolen Valor said, “Well, as a Vietnam veteran...”

He’s a liar if he didn’t step foot in VN.

You can post all the bureaucratic gibberish you want, it won’t make him a Vietnam veteran if he was never there.

The conventional definition of a Vietnam Vet is one that had boots on the ground in-country at any given time during our involvement period which ended in 1975. The Vet status also goes to Navy people off shore and in inland waters.

A Vietnam Era Vet is just that, one that never had boots on the ground yet served honorably elsewhere.

A vietnam era veteran is a Vietnam vet. Legally. Just like Obama is legally blonde.

I am a Vietnam era veteran and I would never refer to myself as a Vietnam veteran. To me, a Vietnam veteran is one who has been awarded the ribbon. I do refer to myself as an Afghanistan veteran since I was in country and was awarded the Afghanistan Campaign medal. I believe there needs to be a distinction made between those who went and those who didn't.

Just read an article on this guy that includes an article from 2000

https://www.omaha.com/news/nation/who-is-nathan-phillips-years-ago-omaha-tribe-member-said/article_6cc049c4-d6d8-5e3c-8ee6-939a203682af.html

I keep seeing him described as a “leader”, an “elder”, like he was an Indian Chief or something.

He’s a BUM! He’s a crackpot Liberal. He’s a NOBODY! Most likely mentally ascue. Pathetic LOSER!

He’s not a tribe “leader”, he’s not a tribe “elder”. He’s OLD, but not an “elder”.

My uncle was stationed in Vieques during World War II. He always said he was keeping the beaches safe for democracy. He said he was never the same after the day he met a beautiful 18 year old Puerto Rican girl in a white bathing suit. They were married for 73 years when he passed away last month at 93.

“Vietnam era veteran” is a government distinction for bureaucratic purposes. It refers to those who served anywhere from 1964 to 1975 or in Vietnam from 1961 to 1975.

As a simple matter of integrity, the term “Vietnam veteran” has come to mean only those who served in country. The rest are “Vietnam Era veterans.” In twenty years of working in the VA and closely with thousands of veterans I never once heard the strange term “Vietnam Times veteran.”
