I know of a somewhat similar case. Less dramatic but similar scenario. The husband really did reform and realized what a fine person he married as she nursed him tenderly. He pretty much got of the booze and they had a very close and warm marriage. Of course the lady continued to practice with her hand guns out behind the barn.

Assume the local cops know these people better than I do.

Yep. And GOD saw that the wickedness of man was great in the earth, and that every imagination of the thoughts of his heart was only evil continually. We’re not totally antediluvian evil yet, but we’re getting there.

There were NO previous police reports.

So assume nothing.

Maybe a politician made a call or two. That’d be more likely.

There were NO previous police reports.

But she did present convincing evidence of priot abuse. Maybe she did like Mary and took pictures and notes. Maybe the guy had a reputation as a mean son of a bitch. Who knows, maybe he had it coming?

Someone very close to me was in a relationship like that. She managed somehow to escape him. She is now a ass kicking conservative woman, but at the time, he had her a sniveling little victim. So it does happen, probably more frequently that most here would believe.

It is always amazing to me how “nice” people marry truly bad people.

Stay single and stay sane.

Reminds me of a local lady awhile back who got tired of being beaten by her husband. She pulled out a shotgun and pointed it at him and told him to back off. He laughed at her, grabbed the barrel and held it to his chest and told her to go ahead and pull the trigger. She did...

Not something I’d do with my wife of 46 years. However if I was abusive, she would respond without prejudice
I’m an old onrey man. Momma doesn’t put up with it.

Your scenarios are horrible!

I have been married for forty five years. I made a personal vow when I was around fourteen years old that I would never be divorced. If I had to live on the East Coast and my wife had to live on the West Coast, I would do that. My father raised me to put all women on a pedestal as a gift from God.

I went on a blind date with my gorgeous trophy wife on May third and we were married on June twenty eighth. It wasn't totally a blind date because I remembered my wife's face as a little girl a year behind me in elementary school. Our families knew of each other in our small rural community and her Dad had been on the Local Board of Trustees for the elementary school.

The people you describe are horrible examples of humanity. It mystifies me to think how anyone could choose to live like that.

I did find some pertinent facts in another article:

Mastin was a Tulane Law student, according to an email from Tulane University obtained by WWL-TV.

The woman has been released without charges and once the investigation is complete, results will be given to the Jefferson Parish DA's office for review, according to the sheriff's office.

So, as I had hoped the Sheriff is not the last word.

My wife and I are of the same opinion regarding divorce. My wife knew that ahead of time - which is why I think she gave me some extra time before asking her to marry her - it was a huge decision! (And it takes me 2 months of research to buy a new toaster.)

My old man told me when we were dating “Don’t lose her. And if you do - it will be YOUR fault.”

Next year will be our 30th.

I have been helping her of late as she helps some elderly neighbors as well as her mom get through some medical issues. One of the neighbors’ nosy friends asked them who wear the pants in our family. I guess helping your wife out doing chores at the elderly neighbor’s home means I’m a wimp.

I get to spend time with my wife and help out the neighbors. Beats sitting at home watching football alone ‘cuz your wife ran out on you. (As is the nosy guy’s case.)

The neighbor lady did stick up for us. “Well - any decision she makes she usually runs it by her husband.”

I know a man who broke up with a long time girlfriend.

I do too but she was just plain crazy. She worked in the same auto plant as he did and despite restraining orders against her, she stalked him relentlessly for a year.

It didn't turn out well for either of them......

While he was dating his now wife, the crazy would show up in his church and harass them from the pew behind them. That's how crazy she was...

On the other hand, she might have gotten some jurors like a few FReepers here, to whom no woman is any good, it’s always their fault, and they all deserved to be beaten.

Abuse by men is what fuels feminism.

Perhaps it’s time to quit worrying about who’s the more deserving victim. The dead dude was under the same obligation as the wife to express his victimhood and run from the toxic relationship long before this confrontation.

Unless somebody can find a huge life insurance policy issued a couple of weeks before his death, the axiom of mutual respect should apply. I figure that this round goes to the wife. It looks like the prosecutor agrees.

Yes, it does, and the victims can be very good at hiding the evidence from even close friends and family.
