PRAGUE The U.S. military has already begun delivering jersey barriers to the southern border in conjunction with plans to deploy active duty troops there, U.S. Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Sunday as a caravan of Central Americans slowly heads across Mexico toward the United States.
Mattis told reporters traveling with him that details of the deployment are still being worked out but he should have them Sunday night. They will include exactly how many forces are needed.
The additional troops will provide logistical and other support to the Border Patrol, and will bolster the efforts of the approximately 2,000 National Guard forces already there. The new forces are expected to provide logistical assistance such as air support and equipment, including vehicles and tents.
National Guard troops routinely perform those same functions, so it is not clear why active duty forces are being used.
President Donald Trump for the past week has been calling attention to the caravan heading by foot into southern Mexico, but it is still hundreds of miles from U.S. soil.

With an admitted Socialist as President of Mexico and Soros funded organizers running the caravan, it is not business as usual.
We’ll see how President Trump contains this.
Yep, Project the image.
So, you knew King Henry V, personally, eh? Well aren’t you the ancient SOB then! I mean to say, if you have “the scars” from fighting in the Battle of Agincourt ...
Er, wait a minute ... That battle was fought in the Year of Our Lord, 1415. Well, boy howdy! Let us all see them scars, ye six-century-ol bastard!
Funny thing is that Shakespeare never mentioned you in his play. I guess you were too busy playing with the fruit salad.
I hope you’re right, BUT I’m sure there are liberal judges that won’t care. And by the time it gets to the supremes they are already in our country with a promissory note to show up at court.
Thanks AW!M. As our President brings home troops, or has to shift troops from other bases, the border will also be patrolled. A multi-level electronic frontier, and continuous patrol by armed drones (backed up with rapid response troops) will be needed.
Hardcore/ not so much.
Wiki knew.
“Fruit-salad” is also a slang term used for medals on a soldiers uniform, e.g. “Look at the fruit-salad on that Colonel.” The term refers to the bright colors of a high percentage of the ribbons that usually go with medals.
“Those women and children attempting to violate our border know full well that they are breaking our laws, and have willingly made a CHOICE to join an invading army. They get what they deserve.”
So please explain what is it they deserve?
And how you will accommodate them?
Actually no. Since MX offered them asylum, and they've refused, they have no "right" to asylum in the US. Rule is "refugees" have to accept the first asylum offered to them.
I believe Mattis is engaging in some diversionary activity here.
Mattis eschews telling the press - or the enemy - any specifics. Remember when he responded to a press inquiry about how we are doing against ISIS with “We’re winning, they’re losing.”
I would wager that while there MAY be some such activity, the REAL military activity is still under wraps.
Trump has specifically said, many times, how it is stupid to tell the enemy one’s plans. So I am sure that Mattis is not revealing the totality of the plans.
A jersey barrier is 42 inches high. Possibly effective against Lilliputians, by not against a central-american horde.
This is a joke!
The United States has been spending Billions of Dollars a year on Illegal Immigration. This will not continue. Democrats must give us the votes to pass strong (but fair) laws. If not, we will be forced to play a much tougher hand.— Donald J. Trump (@realDonaldTrump) October 26, 2018
The law is that a refugee must accept asylum in the first country offering it. MX offered it, they refused.
So the US doesn’t have to offer them asylum legally.
Now, I understand his more somber look recently. Hes become resolute. The desk has rubbed off on him.
Thank God for Bolton.
They deserve the consequence of their stupidity - whether that entails death by a bullet, death by dehydration, death by MS13 gang rape, or a separated stay in a US detention center while awaiting deportation, etc.
If our government fails to stop these invading a-holes, then I will join other Americans on the border to stop them. That will include the use of lethal force - and I really do not give a rat’s tail whether it’s “acceptable” to you or not.
I would think that once they were identified, our government could make life Hell for any of their headquarters located here. i.e. safety/building violations, etc. to the max.
I am too old now; my time as an active military ground pounder was over twenty years ago. But to answer your questions as I would have back when I was on the firing line...
If I was confronted with a young female working her way through the wire in the sector for which I was responsible, would I personally pull the trigger? Yes. I might not aim to kill, but I for sure would shoot.
A child? Yes again. Kids can carry grenades and IEDs.
Have I ever killed another human being? I believe so. Twice, in fact. Never went to look and confirm the kills, and I’m glad I didn’t have to; but I did shoot and they went down, and I tried many more times than those.
Would I put this on the head of some unfortunate Grunt? I would require that any soldier under my command be willing to obey my orders and follow my example. And if he refused to pull the trigger? Depends on what kind of a soldier he has been before, and how he behaves after. If he is a good man otherwise, I might cut him some slack and assume he just didn’t have clear shot at the target. If not, disobeying an order under fire is a court martial offense.
Would you give a direct and unlawful(?) order to do so? You mean say “Fire”? Yes. “Unlawful(?)” That is not for you to say in advance from way behind the firing line; only the soldier, NCO, or Officer on the scene can make that call, and he will be judged by his superior officers and his military peers at Court Martial if there is any question. To give you some insight, in a riot control situation, where the possibility of us coming under sniper fire was slight but real, an officer told me that under no circumstances was I to return fire. I told him frankly that if I had a clear shot, I would take it, to protect my life and the lives of my men. He huffed that he would shoot me to prevent me doing so. I looked the REMF National Guard Officer in the eye and said “then you better shoot fast and straight.”
I don’t know what your service record and experience is, DumbGrunt, but I’ve been in war, and in multiple riots. I learned not to mess around. One can’t assume that those facing you are peaceful and unarmed, whether they are women and children, or appear to be, or not. And if the men in our current forces don’t know that, or their Officers don’t know that, they better learn quick.
You would think so. Those who do this deserve to be punished appropriately.
If our government fails to stop these invading a-holes, then I will join other Americans on the border to stop them.
Sounds a bit intense.
What sort of training have you had, to prepare for such an event?
N.B. Our government has continuously failed to stop them for a long time.
If spooky info comes out too soon some wacko in a black robe could crack a nut with his gavel Cease and desist. Racist motivation.
Very important.
:-)
“Some type of US military presence on the Mexican side, even if just the first 100 meters.”
KEEP THEM OFF US SOIL! You got it right. Push into Mexico 100 or so meters and throw up the razor wire. No cynical invader mamacita with three children will try to walk though this
To repeat - KEEP THEM OFF US SOIL! Luv ya mamas but Houndorsas is your country, not the one I live in the USA. I owe you nitwits nothing so bugger off.
