Tea party groups get revenge against IRS as judge approves $3.5 million payout
Wash Times ^ | Aug 9, 2018 | Steven Dinan

A judge late Wednesday signed off on the settlement between the IRS and hundreds of tea party groups, closing out the last major legal battle over what all sides now agree was unwarranted and illegal targeting for political purposes.

The IRS agreed to pay $3.5 million to groups that were wronged by the intrusive inspections, and insists it’s made changes so that political targeting can’t occur in the future.

A few issues are still being fought over in the courts — including whether former IRS senior executive Lois G. Lerner will be allowed to forever shield her deposition explaining her behavior from public view, and whether the IRS should pay attorney fees — but this week’s decision closes out five years of litigation over the targeting itself.

“It shows that when a government agency desires to target citizens based on their viewpoints, a price will be paid,” said Edward Greim, the lawyer who led the class action case in federal court in Cincinnati.

“Lois was out trimming her rose bushes today, fully enjoying her massive government pension. *spit*”

As long as government workers are not held accountable the criminal behavior of the bureaucrats will continue and the few times the government, not the worker, is found guilty the taxpayer will pay the fine.

Such is justice in the court system today. Meanwhile the GOP Congress that was going to end the misbehavior continues to party with the K Street lobbyists and undermine the president.

One of the groups affected was the Western Slope Conservative Alliance here in Grand Junction. They ceased to exist years ago, partly because they couldn't get their IRS application processed. Who (if anyone) gets the money?

I filed my 2016 return Dec 27 2017.

It was on paper.

I believe the i.r.s. for unknown reasons is singling me out. Its now 9 months later and still no closure. All we get is the infamous 60 day letters. We need more time ... you will hear from us in 60 days. Been going on for NINE MONTHS.

Its like we are being punished because we did this ourselves. We didn’t hire any tax preparer.

Anybody else with this horrible treatment.

Great. Taxpayers pay for Obama’s crimes.

Exactly! The people in government responsible for wrongdoing never have to pay. Taxpayers get stuck with the bill. No wonder we have an imperial bureaucracy that rules us.

Maybe the court should require the federal employees involved to pay a percentage of the settlement.

This settlement must repay the TEA Party groups for their legal expenses or this is not just.

The money didn’t come out of Lois’ retirement check, it’s coming out of the taxpayer’s pockets. How did the Tea Party get revenge against the IRS?

Each one of these Tea party Groups will get less then a $1000 dollars when they likely had to pay a lot more then that to the IRS and to fight this.

The criminals get off Scot free and make 5X that per month from the government.
