Vaccine for cancer [Glioblastoma] that killed Tessa Jowell 'remarkably promising'
BBC ^ | 5.29.2018 | Alex Therrien

... After receiving the treatment, Kat's most recent MRI scan showed no trace of the tumour.

"DCVax has done what everyone said was impossible," her husband Jason says. "If not for this treatment, I would be without my wife and without a mother for our child."

Kat continues to have regular injections of the vaccine.

'Major breakthrough' Keyoumars Ashkan, professor of neurosurgery at King's College Hospital in London, who was the trial's European chief investigator, said the results gave "new hope to the patients and clinicians battling with this terrible disease".

"Although definitive judgement needs to be reserved until the final data is available, the paper published today hints at a major breakthrough in the treatment of patients with glioblastoma.

"Cautious optimism is welcome in an area where for so long the disease and suffering have had the upper hand."

Dr David Jenkinson, chief scientific officer for the Brain Tumour Charity, said: "These results appear remarkably promising for a community of patients who have been given little hope for decades.

"I go to London on the train, I have a shot in each arm and then I'm free to go home. It doesn't give me any side-effects. It's fantastic."

Lets hope and pray this is the real deal. I have a friend who lost her husband to this awful cancer. I don’t wish it on anyone (not even John McCain)

If McCain used his influence to get in on this trial, I bet he also tried to use his influence and position to demand that he NOT be among those getting the placebo but instead be placed in the group getting the real treatment.

Luckily McQueeg has been room temperature for weeks. They just wanted to post-date it so Cindy could keep his Senate seat.

That seat doesn’t belong to the citizens of Arizona, after all.

It belongs to them.

My father died in 1979 from a glioblastoma. He died 1 yr to the day he was diagnosed. When Ted Kennedy was diagnosed he lasted 1 year even though his medical care was probably 1000 times better than my dads. Glioblastoma is a death sentence. Hopefully this is a breakthrough.

On a regular basis we hear of some miraculous cure — only for it to sink into obscurity, never to be heard about again. I sincerely wish this one will be different, but — we Shall see in due course. One anecdote does not a breakthrough make.

Sorry Juan. Too late amigo. It looks like your gas tank is on empty just short of landing at this airport. Kind of fitting, don't ya think?

Unfortunately from phase 1 trial to a marketable product can take up to 10 years. Trump’s man at the FDA Scott Gottlieb, himself a cancer survivor, is trying to speed it up.

Hope it is a breakthrough also. Lost my mom to it this March (diagnosed in January). It is a horrible thing.

So isn’t it the AZgovs job to ensure the state has proper representation? Why won’t he just appoint someone to replace McCain now?

Because medication can't continue to be sold if there's a cure / vaccine.

I’m in favor of the FDA loosening up on experimental drugs for people who have nothing to lose. It’s hard to believe that this is even an issue.

“Because medication can’t continue to be sold if there’s a cure / vaccine.”

I’m actually starting to believe that there is an element of truth to this. I note that agood number of breakthroughs come from England where the cold calculus of cost/benefit rules.

No, it’s because most of the “cures” are hyped up by the researchers who are hoping to bring in investors to fund further development. Most drug prototypes turn out to be duds.

If cures were being withheld because there is more profit in treating the disease than in prevent ing it, then why do we have mandatory vaccinations? Why not just let kids get sick and hospitalize them for big profits?

If you want an answer to this, look at the story of the Australian doctor Barry Marshall (click here), who discovered the fact that the administration of amoxycillin together with Peptobismol killed the organism helicobacter pylorii that causes stomach ulcers.

It is my impression that the makers of products for temporary stomach relief fought tooth and nail to prevent the spread of the wonderful news of a cure to the medical community as well as to the general public. Their efforts greatly impeded the implementation, because it meant that the multibilliondollar prescription drug business they had created was about to collapse.

Finally, the only way they have kept hold of a part of it is to get the FDA to allow these medicines to be sold over the counter without the requirements of a doctor's prescription.

Thus, those who are uninformed, or whose physician yet will not administer the cure, still keep them in the over-the-counter business, albeit at a greatly reduced level of market size and profitability.
