SPARTA, Tenn. - Body camera video from the aftermath of a deadly officer-involved shooting has raised new questions about what happened.
Video obtained by NewsChannel 5 Investigates shows the White County Sheriff discussing his order to use deadly force with another deputy.
Sheriff Oddie Shoupe did not realize he was being recorded after the shooting by a body camera that another deputy put in the back of a patrol car.
What it caught the sheriff saying is now at the center of a federal lawsuit.

Sheriff Oddie Shoupe was not involved in the chase, but he gave orders to the radio dispatcher authorizing deputies to shoot Dial.
The radio dispatcher said, “Per 59 (the sheriff) use deadly force if necessary. Take the subject out by any means necessary.”
After that order, Deputy West took out his gun.
They were on Highway 111 with few cars in sight.
Minutes later deputies pushed Dial’s truck off the road.
West got out of his truck and immediately opened fire.
Officer Charlie Simms also started shooting.
Dial was struck in the head.
He was unarmed.
Ruh roh.
“I thrive on it..!”
If that’s true of a rural sheriff, what might it be like at the level of, say, the FBI..?
My guess is the power is extremely intoxicating.
The guy ‘thrives’ on killing people. Seems legit. /sarc
This is the kind of crap reporting to be expected from the 50 IQ millennials.
How about a lead paragraph explaining who, what, when, where and why.
And please, don’t tell me to go read the article at the link. If a so-called reporter can’t explain the story in one paragraph, I’m not about to waste my time reading crap from 20-year-old moron who can’t write a basic paragraph.
Taxpayers poorer, some relatives richer, all hushed up, nobody learns a thing, nobody changes a thing. And thus pride goes before destruction once more and everyone loses.
That shows prioritization of style over whatever facts can be gleaned. No wonder the “right” loses. It has stopped caring about the most important things.
The sheriff appears to be quite insane. My armchair psychology diagnoses him as a sociopath with a god complex.
Amazingly enough it just gets swept under the rug because public service unions make it painful for authorities bent on enforcing integrity to drill down to facts. And we wonder why it’s so hard to get the left to walk away.
Dittoes. Spot on. What do journalism school dropouts do after they flunk out? They go on to be TV news reporters.
And then we have lazy freepers who post a portion of the story giving even less information.
Grrr.
Youre whining about style vs. substance makes you no better than those 50 IQ millennials you hate...
Even lazier ones who won’t look at what lies beyond, let alone helpfully grab pieces of it.
So what’s with all the police bashing?
Running from the police is a BAD decision. It puts police lives in danger as well as innocent civilians.
Police have to have a legitimate reason to stop a car else it’s an illegal stop.
Try living in a society without police. Don’t think you’d last long.
Worse even... Purposely puerile
And then we have lazy freepers who post a portion of the story giving even less information.
