L.A. isn’t Latin America, whatever California elites tell you. But it ought to be

>>>“The center city and Westside – the most familiar parts of L.A. worldwide – are far whiter than the U.S. as a whole.”<<<

Maybe they meant “Century City”, where Ronaldus Magnus had his Office after he left the White House.

Downtown LA changes colors late at night and on weekends. It is noting like it was when I worked there back in the 70’s and 80’s.

California is what it is because of the idiot voters the state has the largest amount of illegals (cheap labor) in the nation and the highest taxes in the nation and the voters like it that way because the keep voting for it idiots on the march.
Jerry Brown chuckles.

Well, downtown, if you only count homeowners, is very white ...not too many hispanics. Workers during the day are all stripes.

Westside, maybe, but I don’t know how you draw a definition of center city that would exclude Skid Row, Little Tokyo, Chinatown, etc. Of if the radius is any bigger, now you’re talking about Westlake/MacArthur Park, South Central, Boyle Heights. I dunno . . .

I don’t know what their center city is.

if you are talking g downtown homeowners, it’s heavily white but very mixed with day workers.

When I worked there back in the 70’s they started building Condos near the Bonaventure Hotel.

At work we were wondering who the heck would want to live in Downtown LA. The idea of living East of Flower Street was like moving to a Foreign Country.

Hmm ... I know quite a few people who live downtown. Most of their places are either fun factory art lofts or elegant high rises.

Santa Monica and some sections of Pasadena are very wealthy and highly desirable. You’re talking serious movie industry wealth. Coastal and south Orange County is also good.

But if you were to start driving into the once pleasant suburbs outside of those areas you’d see something far different. The north Orange County suburbs that once were home to the aerospace industry are decaying neighborhoods with all of the problems that mass illegal immigration brings.

Do you or anyone else know the fertility index of white California women after 1965?

” the state has the largest amount of illegals (cheap labor) in the nation “

And you think that California voters can stop that? Did you fail gov’t class?

Thanks for the info.

Interested in what you think - HOw come some of the neighborhoods dont ‘gentrify’ per your statement, why cant north orange county cities gentrify

I aak because a lot of Seattle’s Rainer Valley has improved since the late 20’s and early 30’s have started moving in

Gentrification requires incomes to support it and the belief that depressed neighborhoods can be brought back. Seattle has Microsoft and other good employers. When north OC lost the aerospace industry it lost its anchor for good incomes. Nothing comparable in size has replaced it and with the business-hostile climate in CA nothing likely will.

The suburban American culture that once was typical of SoCal began to leave as well, crowded out by a poorer culture from the third world. Population density is much higher, public schools are worse, and yet housing prices are through the roof. Not a recipe for attracting young Americans. The neighborhoods they can afford are culturally alien and not especially safe. I’ve hoped for gentrification, I just don’t see it happening. Demographic forces unleashed by the Bushes, Clinton, Obama are still working against it. You can’t flood a region with the third world’s poor and expect it to flourish.

Just saying that around my area of Cali I dont see
the border jumpers of whom you speak and Cali is
not a failed state as it doesn’t yet fit enough criteria.
I won’t dispute the road conditions nor the sucky
schools of today.

You can look at the “racial dot map” for Los Angeles here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/walkingsf/5560490330. There might be a few blocks in downtown LA that are mostly white, but they are surrounded by a sea of non-white areas.

Not isn’t. I’ve a native of 69 years... love it here. Few places with better weather. Real estate is expensive .... been looking for a new house the last two days ... saw 3 today. High prices.

Problem in the last few years, LA is REALLY becoming a city go HAVES and HAVE NOTS.

As a general rule, the HAVES are usually white ... the HAVE NOTS are usually not white. The last few years have been stark reminders of the divide. Even formerly ethnic areas have been gentrified. The wealthy are moving in and renovating. Property values soar. Rents are astronomical.
