Left says Dems caved on shutdown
The Hill ^ | Jan 22, 2018 | By Rafael Bernal

Progressives are hammering Sen. Minority Leader Charles Schumer

(D-N.Y.) for his agreement with Senate Republican leadership to end the government shutdown on Monday.

Even House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi

(D-Calif.) has spoken out against the deal, saying there was no reason to support it.

“I don’t see that there’s any reason –– I’m speaking personally and hearing from my members –– to support what was put forth,” Pelosi said at a press briefing shortly before Schumer signaled Senate Democrats would agree to it.

Activists took a harsher tone.

“It’s official: Chuck Schumer

is the worst negotiator in Washington – even worse than Trump,” said Murshed Zaheed, political director at CREDO, a progressive advocacy group.

“Any plan to protect Dreamers that relies on the word of serial liars like [Senate Majority Leader] Mitch McConnell

[R-Ky.], [House Speaker] Paul Ryan

[R-Wisc.] or Donald Trump

is doomed to fail,” Zaheed added.

Schumer and McConnell brokered a deal to pass a continuing resolution to fund the government until Feb. 8 in exchange for a compromise from Senate Republican leadership to hold a vote on DACA-replacement legislation by that date.

Activists were incensed at the deal, as it includes no guarantees that a bill will pass — nor does it tie an immigration bill to a must-pass measure to give Democrats leverage.

The agreement also includes no guarantees that a potential Senate agreement on DACA could see a vote in the House.

If you've not read it, I highly recommend, The Price of Glory: Verdun 1916, by Alistair Horne, currently available on Amazon in paper back for $14.95. It's the best account of the whole campaign I've read.

Trump to Schumer: You’ll get nothing and you’ll like it.

I think it’s possible, but much more likely that Trump gave him a peep of the dirt on Shumer himself.

I’m not fond of that idea. I don’t like blackmail from either side. I’m not a big believer in “the ends justify the means”.

However ..... if Trump now has dirt that the dems/Soros/Klintoons/whoever have been using to manipulate Shumer and others in power, the dirt that has been used to subvert our republic, then I have to think it’s poetic justice when it’s used against the perps themselves. Hoist by their own petard.

Not saying this is the case. Just that it’s my best guess.

(And I’m wondering if all those “lost” FBI files that magically turned up in the WH during the Clinton years might be involved.)

For the confused among us, this is a royal butt-kicking AND we get to do this again in a few weeks because some people never learn their lesson.

Saw this post on DU and cannot stop laughing!!! They really don’t watch anything but Rachel Madcow.

“It would be about stubborn Democrats favoring illegal immigrants over the government, the Schumer Shutdown, etc. The media is never going to favor the Dems.”

Yes, it’s a huge win. Because every time there is a shutdown the media blames the GOP. But this time it didn’t work, and the Dems blinked. They basically got bupkus except for 3 more weeks of funding the bloated bureaucracy. And then we do it all over again.

Every day the federal government is shut means that more people will realize that all of those non-essential employees can be laid off without any diminishment of quality of life.

It ain’t over. The dems will have more opportunities to shut down the government over the illegals or whatever else they are foisting on us. Schumer made a calculation that when it is brought to a vote they will prevail in the Senate. Given the makeup of the Senate they very well may prevail. That doesn’t help Schumer with the House though.

More drama to follow.

Yes! The Democrats are a bunch of sell-outs. So join us in the CPUSA. Soon the People will rise up in angry indignation against their bonuses and pay raises and rising 401Ks, and stand for dehumanizing bureaucracies, equal distribution of misery, and tenements as far as they eye can see.

“’It’s official: Chuck Schumer is the worst negotiator in Washington – even worse than Trump,’ said Murshed Zaheed, political director at CREDO, a progressive advocacy group.”

Isn’t it interesting how many ‘progressives’ these days have foreign-sounding (read: Muslim) names? Why, it’s almost as if the Enemy were inside our gates or something!

*SPIT*

These CREDO ‘progressives’ fund themselves through owning a cellphone company!

https://credoaction.com/about/

“CREDO Action is the advocacy arm of CREDO, a social change organization that offers products – like CREDO Mobile – in order to fund grassroots activism and progressive nonprofit organizations.

Our customers and members have generated hundreds of millions of petition signatures and tens of millions of phone calls and letters to elected officials, corporate executives and other key decision-makers across the country. Hundreds of thousands of CREDO members have poured into the streets to participate in the hundreds of protests and rallies that CREDO staff have helped organize. Our videos highlighting progressive champions and exposing right-wing extremists have racked up well over 150 million views.”

*SNIP*

“Over the course of our history, CREDO has donated more than $85 million to Democracy Now!, Brennan Center for Justice, Doctors Without Borders, ACLU, EFF, Planned Parenthood, Color Of Change, 350.org and hundreds of other fierce and effective nonprofit groups.

At CREDO, we believe in the incredible power of people coming together to make real change – no matter the odds. When people raise their voices and fight with everything they’ve got, we can win.”

SCOTUS has never ruled on DACA or it’s now defunct cousin DAPA. DAPA was struck down by the 5th Circuit in U.S. v. Texas, but SCOTUS was a 4-4 tie with no opinion so we don’t have a clear ruling. The only DACA case to get to the Court of Appeals level was Johnson v. Crane, where the same 5th Circuit found that Mississippi hadn’t established standing to sue. So there was never a ruling on the merits.

However, with the ascension of Gorsuch to SCOTUS and if DACA was ever presented for a ruling, I believe the rationale in the 5th Circuit rationale in U. S. v. Texas would find five votes in agreement.

To clarify, Pennsylvania Station (aka Penn. Station) is on the west side of Manhattan. Grand Central Station is on the east side of Manhattan.

Of course it was a win for Trump. That is what you call it when your opponents look like fools. It just gives Trump another chance for another humiliation of Schumer.
